  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ss Oil Filter For 449/511 Models (info)

There is a rear indent on the filter just like the HiFlow. A 3/4" x 1/4" Neodymium magnet will fit with the cover fully closed. High temperature Neodymium magnets are available in this size.

We have K&P ss filters in our 4 Husky's. Sure they cost a pretty penny, but I think they have paid for them selves by now as the 563 filters for our bikes are around $8 apiece. Don't neglect them. Pull them and inspect/clean them often. I keep some rubber corks around to plug them while cleaning so nothing gets on the inside where you don't want it.

I thought I have read here on CH that ss filters are used in military aircraft and helicopters, our at least in civilian ones. I believe as long as you keep fresh, clean oil in your bike and inspect/clean the ss filter often you will be fine. Our bikes have been.

I'm sure there are some really great ways to clean them. The way I clean them, I use a wooden dowel that fits snug in the gasket end. This plugs the hole and offers a handle for me to hold the filter. First I spray off the bulk of the oil with carburetor cleaner, just like cleaning the other two filters in the 449/511s. Then while holding the end of the dowel, I swirl them in a bucket of very hot soapy water and rinse. I have an ultrasound cleaner I purchased at harbor freight that I occasionally use, but it isn't really necessary. You can use compressed air to dry them or shake them off and leave to dry. I have two filters so that I can swap a dry one in, etc.

Haha. A band saw actually, I know its really rough, its just a prototype. I'm gonna scrap heap it this month probably...

So you fill the ultrasonic cleaner with LPS and put the ss filter in there?
How to dispose of the used LPS?

Yes, but the LPS is super concentrated so you cut it pretty heavy with water, the gallon will dilute out to make more than one can reasonably use so the price per gallon is pennies.

You can actually use any cleaner you like, non-flammable though. LPS is great stuff, its easy on the skin and pours right down the drain with no issues.
If your a 'green' type person, you can filter the stuff through a coffee filter to get the oils out and then pour it out and recycle the filter.

If you go this route, I would spend a little extra a get a model that heats as well. That makes a huge difference.

I think this is great information. I don't care if theres a paper filter capable of extracting matter down to an RCH, but if it clogs and doesn't flow, or it's butt cold and the oil is lumpy, then it's not worth a shit.

Hohoho and lumps of coal all around I say!

Cool. Thanks for the info. I didn't see any that would remotely fit a Husqvarna and they are 130 bucks each.

You can get large diesel system filters that will remove harmful particles down to 0.1 micron and bind moisture or fuel, which significantly reduces breakdown of the oil. But they are large and filter very slowly off a bypass, typically 1 quart per minute.

Alternatively, I use fresh oil more often to lower my engine contaminants. I pay $5/quart for Mobil1, swap out my oil and wash my ss filter every 100-200 miles or so. :)

I ordered a filter from K&P Engineering for my 310 yesterday. Hopefully the 0W40 Amsoil I am running and the increased flow from the new filter will help with engine longevity.
