  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ss Oil Filter For 449/511 Models (info)

I use filters on the mass spectrometers I repair and calibrate, my filter system has filters that are rated at .2 microns
What that has to do with the filters on the 511 is nothing, but the company is Balstom. I think if we put these in
the 511, we could blow it up because the only flow 10 ml a min, filtering furnace gas. They plug up with the slightest
Introduction of fluid. So let us stick with what will fit and flow..

Wonder if you could put them in a pair of underwear?

I ordered a filter from K&P Engineering for my 310 yesterday. Hopefully the 0W40 Amsoil I am running and the increased flow from the new filter will help with engine longevity.

Filter came yesterday. It looks like a quality unit. I'm going to hide out in the garage and change my oil and install it this afternoon while my wife and her filipina friends invade my living room and convert it into a karaoke parlor.

Ahh, the garage, away from wife, kids, grand kids, phone, computer, coworkers, just my bikes, tools, and my
Self, finally in charge...(no wonder I screw so much stuff up out there) Lol

My 20 cents worth I have run a ss filter in my DRZ400 for over 10,000 Km the bike has now 21,000 Km off road and some on road and still does not use oil. My DRZ400e in the bike shop right now getting a top end freshen up (big bore 440 kit not that it needs it) so when its apart I can tell you how worn stuff is.

I have a 2013 TE449 now as well and would like to fit a ss filter if I can find a quality one for a reasonable price in Oz or delivered to Oz. It costs me $15 for a HF filter which I change every 500Km using Castrol part syn motorcycle oil but bike has less than 2,000 Km so not much to tell.

I just wash the ss filter out in petrol then blow dry with compressed air, I may now use some carby cleaner as thats a great idea as is using a cork/plug to hold the filter.

Ps DRZ400 oil gets changed every 1,000 KM if its lucky or before 2,000 km if I am slack once I let it do around 3,000 before I changed it.

Scotts filter $70 plus freight is the killer

Great explanation, thanks.

I received your steering dampener for my TE449 just before xmas and fitted up just after that, I have ridden the bike now with it on a few times and works great so far, I am still fiddling with the adjustment and now run it just over half way.

Two things I found. It makes the seat a bitch to get on (dont know a solution for this yet) and the stem that bolts through the frame tends to come loose easy, I have now fitted a 10mm longer bolt with a 10mm spacer which allows me to get a spanner on the bolt with less trouble and thus getting it tighter and now able to check tighten without removing rectifier which helps. ps I use lock tight as well.

Another benefit of the dampener is the bars now feel much better at the increased hight.

based on this thread & others, I now have 2 of the Scotts SS filters to rotate, an ultrasonic heater/cleaner and a jug of Simple Green (couldn't find LPS locally).
I wonder how many paper filters that would have paid for?
