  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

so what you would do is wait till after the 6 months then do the power up kit? are there any exhaust kits available for this bike besides leo's ? will the power up kit run properly with just the stock pipes? what do i have to do to make the power up kit run at its best? i dont want to do any powercommander stuff. thanks again for everything again this site is the best!

What I would do, knowing everything I know and have seen the dyno work at Dynojet, is to do 2 or 3 hundred miles to be sure the bike is ok and there are no warranty issues, put on the power up kit and leave the stock exhausts.

But I'm not an SM person, and I am cheap. :)

Regarding the spark arrestor, I would verify that a 'wooden stick' can only go in so far, the is the test the authorities use here.

Obviously anyone could do anything they wanted, such as aftermarket exhausts, I don't know what is available.

Husqvarna makes a non-cat dual exhaust for them. See the following link. Some people put dual exhausts on models that came with single exhaust and some people put single exhaust on models that came with dual exhaust.

The cheapest, easiest option is to put in the power-up parts and leave the exhaust alone. It should run well with no other mods and maybe the cats will eventually plug up, maybe not. Some people say to wait until the warranty expires and some say to do it right away. See what the dealer says and if no issue, put the power up parts on ASAP.

The spark arrestors only come on USA and Canada models as far as I know. That was true for '08 anyway. You can see them from the outlet end since they're only an inch or two long. All the '09 models come with cat elements. Can be removed from TE, not from SMR (without cutting and welding).
