• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Round two of the "other" carb types - Lectron

I agree with you that this is the risk factor I would think that a CH deal is not that much in a cheaper price for the Carb but to have a discount on some accessories when buying one.

its a nice way for them to still get the profit on the carb and if somebody wants a few bits more they get the more volume without that they have to suffer to much on their margin yet the buyer has a discount for the small bits and bobs he might order (every body wins).

+1

I'm sure some people would prefer the billet float bowl, or want an adjustable power jet.

There are pluses and minuses to all things. Just have to choose what works for you. The APT seems to have some advantages in design and a further progression of the idea. People still love Mikuni and Keihn's, they are all good. Up until a few weeks ago I did not know I was missing a metering rod carb :D Is my life going to change ether way? No. If someone is considering the APT or Lectron or any other carb I would hope they would read all the forums and info out there and decide what works best for their needs. I ride tighter woods on a 125 / 165. If your racing dez on a WR300 your results are for sure going to be different. Like any product, do your research, see if it seems like money you want to part with and go for it. All I am doing with these reviews is giving MY opinion, on MY bike in MY riding conditions for ME. Nothing more. Just want to make that 100% clear as I see some posts on other forums that seems like a "carb war" is brewing and I think everyone is a winner we just need to get info and decide what works for us. For a lot of people $300 to gain some throttle response is not money well spent. For others it is everything. Sorry for the semi rant. All I want to do is... Ride More.

:>)

yep all what I want is also ride more and one way of doing that is spending less time in trying to get my carb into the right setting due to humidity and temperature changes.

just getting away the pain of doing that is for me worth $300

on top of that the savings i made on not buying jets (really hard to find here and not cheap (don't even start about needles)) on top of that having 2 little sons that find these very interesting and so make them disappear.

better mileage is just a mater of time and you break even (I do have time)

improved throttle response and a bit more punch is also appreciated (it only ads to the grin factor).

$300 a bargain for my situation if you ask me

Why did you veer away from using Lectrons? Where they good back then too?
I got away from Lectrons when I was riding for Suzuki. I actually had a Lectron on my prototype PE125 in 1981 and John Morgan the Team Suzuki Offroad team manager made me take it off because of Suzuki Corps contract with Mikuni. Worked well. I started returning to this type carb in the Late 90's and early 2000's. With Edelbrock Quiksilvers. Edelbrock quit making them as they didn't sell enough to make it pay. Sad.
When riding for Team Yamaha in 1978, Carl Cranke, Dane Leimbach, and my self all used the Lectrons on our IT's. Dane and I had IT175. I can't remember if Carl was on a 400 or a 250.

I called Lectron in hopes of ordering one of these carbs, but they're closed til 01-02-13.

Thanks to you guys for purchasing, shipping, installing, uninstalling and testing these carbs. Big thanks to Vinduro and John01 for laying out the cash and to K for being the guinea pig! Also, thanks to Joe Chod for the spigot measurement!

I am OVER jetting. I hate it. I just want to ride my damn bike and not have to deal with flat spots, fouled plugs, spooge and the rest of that crap. I really like the 'set it and forget it' angle these metering rods offer.

I 165'd my CR, but the PWK w/144 jetting is a ways off base and the motor has no top end. Not sure if its the carb, the PV adjustment or if its got too much compression, but it would be GREAT to eliminate the carb from this equation.

When I call back on the 2nd I'll talk to them about possibly doing a CH discount on add-on parts (billet bowl, choke, etc). They're about to see a boom in business from the Cafe, so maybe they'll throw us a bone :excuseme:. We'll see.....

the invoice for the Lectron carb Vinduro sent me has a line that says...

"Dyno / wet test to set air fuel mixture for entire RPM range for 165 husky 2 stroke"

How cool is that?

I really like the 'set it and forget it'

I don't know why, but I instantly had a vision of Ron from Ronco pimping these carbs on TV. "But Wait! We'll also throw in a pocket fisherman"

Brandon,

That top end is going to have a lot of compression. PM me if you want to deal with that, easy fix.

Lots of compression adds low end and kills the top end. I like to run mine on pump gas and have them setup like stock. Still lots of low and mid and revs well too. Brandon, you need to ride my 165, it still has the Lectron on it.

Yeah, I've got a feeling its the compression. Squish measured .055" with the .8mm base gasket.
I knew it was gonna be high, but I am WAY too impatient to wait to ride it :D

I'll shoot you a PM Walt. And Kelly, I'd love to ride your bike.

As am I! However, my bike on the other hand is not in any condition to ride.. Might have time tomorrow to tear into it...

Remember that a Lectron flows more than a normal carb. A 38mm Lectron flows like a 40mm Mikuni or Keihin. So a 36mm will flow like the stock 38mm TMXx. I have always tended to under size my carbs of this type. I ran a 30mm Edelbrock Quicksilver on my 315cc modified Honda XR250R and a 32X34mm on my XR441R. I ran a 30mm Lectron on my 125 Hercules in place of the stock 32mm Bing and I ran a 32mm Lectron in place of the stock Mikuni 34mm on my factory Yamaha IT175. The smaller carb also gives a stronger signal at the needle for better throttle response and power.

Kevin told me that and recomended the 36 so that is what I got (getting) has not shipped yet

Just got off a long conversation with Kevin from Lectron. What a nice person. Very informational and enlightening. Great info on functionality, setup, tuning, history of the company etc. I have decided to become a dealer for Lectron based on this great conversation and my like of this carb. We are already exchanging info so these will be setup right for our bikes. Right size, cable guides, metering rods. Bolt on and go. Like Motoz tires and Trailtech, when there is a fit, it is right, and we have the same goals, I'm in. Kevin is a nice guy, has a great product, more than willing to take info and build what we need and the big one is the thing works really good. I will get setup with everything including optional rods and tuning stuff and we will go from there. What really put me at ease with all this is it is obvious they have been doing this for a LONG time and sell mountains of them to lots of satisfied customers but mostly in different sports. Will elaborate but feel in very good hands.

So now this thread is starting to turn into a sales pitch. Sorry. I will start another post to address all this just thought I should post it here as this is there the Lectron saga started :>)

I'm either going to buy a Lectron or an APT depending who get a sorted cast carb with the right needle first. When some WR250 feedback starts coming in please post it up. It sounds like Lectron could be there a lot sooner.
