• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Round two of the "other" carb types - Lectron

I measured my TMXx Spigot and Bell. Got about 45mm spigot and 63mm Bell. Measured with a metric ruler.

A couple of things.

1. I think the APT is easier to adjust, although I think once either carb is set it will run perfect as long as you aren't making huge elevation changes.

2. I think the ability of the Apt to use the actual pressure at the carb inlet to compensate for changes in the environment/altitude give it a slight advantage.

3. I think the keyhole design of the APT will give it a slight advantage.

4. I don't know if the sum total of those slight advantages compensates for the extra cost!

Carb wars goes on and the winner is the consumer.....us!

Yeah I think cast to cast is wash with the expected price of SC at $75.00 more. Billet SC to Lectron = Lectron FTW; at least at this time. I agree Walt the real winner is us :applause:.

I am considering the APT but will have to wait for the cast version$$$$ but may b tempted to get the Lec to try until then, hmmm

If Lectron's are readily availabe it makes to tempting to get one for the price,299.00 and they have accessories in their store too.

They are neck and neck for me. I do think the APT slightly outperformed the Lectron but also think with a quick metering rod adjustment it will be right there. I like the build of it and like the adjustable top end feature not that that will affect me in a big way. I like both better than a standard carb for the throttle response and smooth strong power. The altitude compensation does not really affect me and my riding much. As for the keyhole design they are both very smooth and progressive. I think the fact that the Lectron went right on, fired right up and I never touched it and it was pretty much perfect makes me like that carb. The clear float bowl is actually pretty cool and a quick glance tells you all you need. Also like the fact that it drains when tipped over although I had my bike upside down with the APT on it and had no issues. I can hardly wait for the snow to melt so I can go test some more.

Thanks, this will make it easier when ordering a lectron and having it fit better:thumbsup:
I think the Mikuni site says that the numbers are 44mm & 62mm. So my measurements might be off 1mm. The carb was wrapped in a Plastic bag. The PWK is supposed to be 46mm & 63. I didn't find the PWK A/S hard to go into the spigot mount at all. I guess the mount stretches a fair amount.

So if going with a Lectron, what is the conensus....a 36 or 38mm for the WB165 kit?

Thanks for all the information you guys are offering us.

depends on how you ride. If like me you are in the woods using mid range the 36 is probably the ticket. If you Mx or dez race etc and are on the top end a lot a 38 will be the choice.

I was thinking that perhaps on the WB165 the 38mm might be better. The WB165 is already strong on the low to mid range. The upper end feels a bit lacking with the 200SX Fatty pipe. So, in my simple mind, I thought the 38mm may wake up the upper end a bit more and let the WB165 shine through the entire range. :excuseme:

with my Doma pipe I always thought I was trading for bottom and mid at the expense of top until I bolted the 36mm APT on and ended up with lots of top too. Personally I am sticking with the 36 for my needs as I ride low to mid 90% of the day.

I have already ordered and payed for a 38 cast APT and don't regret it, but I will be buying a 36 of one of the carbs later in the summer too. I also don't spend much time on the very top so that isn't an issue for me. I do ride above 9000' periodically so the altitude compensation of the apt is a big plus for me. With the apt having a check valve in the pressure lines to the float bowl I doubt it will ever have a tip over flooding issue. Look forward to more testing by Kelly.

I'm tempted to order a 36 Lectron and maybe stepping up for the 38 cast APT later and between the WR250 and 165 finding a good home for each.
I sure like the idea of external adjustment
