  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Radiator hoses

You got most of the old coolant out by taking off the old hose/thermostat and draining both radiators. The correct/best practice answer is to use Evan Coolant flush and flush the whole system again with it. This product was made for the specific propose.

Less expensive route; is use the XF coolant to flush it out. Our bike uses half the bottle of coolant to fill up. Use 1/4 of the bottle to fill the system 1/2 way up and then run the bike for a little while to get the new coolant to circulate into the system. Drain the system and discard the used coolant. This will take out the rest of the water in the system. Now fill up the bike with the remainder of the XF coolant.

Is there a coolant drain screw on a 2012 TE310 that would drain the block or? My PDF shop manual that I purchased from Halls last year has a bug in it and won't open properly. Still trying to figure the PDF issue out so I can't reference the manual ATM... It worked fine the last time I tried the PDF but now it has corrupt files.

I don't see anything in the WSM about a block drain. In fact, section N of the manual which covers the cooling system is almost devoid of any useful information.

Are you going to convert to a TC style hose setup? I wonder how useful a thermostat really is in an engine that runs this hot?

Yes it will be converted to TC coolant specs per say. I found the original email from Halls from last May which had the Google link to the shop manual I purchased and I re loaded it. Working now. So I agree, after looking at the cooling overhaul section I am dumber now than when I started...LOL After I removed the hoses I leaned the bike over on the left side at the water pump side and tried to drain the remaining fluid. I looked into the Evans coolant flush and it seems aimed towards engines that can't be drained which ours can so I don't think it is required IMHO.
On a side note, I spoke with a factory trained Husky tech at a very respected Husky dealer and he told me that no ill effects would come from running the silicone hose assembly designed for a TC on our TE's. After looking at the squid like OEM TE hose contraption I removed I say good riddance. I hope I don't eat those words...LOL

As street2dirt said.... and I wonder if a shot of compressed air from that hole might expel water up and out that may be lingering.

Has anyone replaced the hoses on a "Red Head" TXC ??? I've been searching but everything I find says it fits TC or TE. Can't find anything for the TXC. I thought the '13 310s were all very similar for the most part.

I know the screw you are talking about, but I am hesitant to start loosening or removing things if I am not certain what they are. Maybe Tinken knows?

Use compressed air to remove old water and coolant. Don't worry about getting it all out, any residual water will boil out eventually. XF can be drained and replaced to get the residue out, but its not necessary.

I see the small drain plug on the lower right front side of the block and it would appear to be a drain plug for the coolant but???? You go first.LOL Compressed air it is:thumbsup:

Rad guards installed and new hoses installed. Easy to install the pro factory hoses.

One thing I would like to mention is that since I installed the FMF powerbomb header designed for a TC250 and the silicone hoses are for a TC250, I no longer have any clearance issues between the header and hose. I stumbled upon this without planning it but it worked out very good in the end. I hope this helps someone in the future.

FYI, the little bolt below the header exhaust port is a drain after all. Just be aware of the tiny brass washer on there because it just might fall down into your bash plate and hide for 5 minutes. AMHIK

XF+ just showed up from ZipTy:banana: And the mighty UPS driver brought me my belated Christmas present from my wife, a Rekluse Core EXP. I'm a happy boy:awww: She must love me, even after 23 years...

All you need now is a ZipTy 310 oil breather mod kit. Vaporware... :D

No kidding. You watch, as soon as I get my bike all back together Tinken will announce the kits are completed and I will need to rip everything back apart. LOL Such as life. I got a good look at the drain back hose while everything is torn down and having the tank off is a must at a minimum.

Just put a new oil hose on now while it is apart and use that one for the breather kit.

Not the worst idea I've heard but I am getting fast at removing the tank so no worries. I have a feeling the new kits are a ways out still.

Has anyone replaced the hoses on a "Red Head" TXC ??? I've been searching but everything I find says it fits TC or TE. Can't find anything for the TXC. I thought the '13 310s were all very similar for the most part.

Earlier in this thread it was pointed out that the red heads have a electrical temp sensor installed in one of the hose assemblies so it appears that these hoses would not be compatible without some hacking involved.

Also, on your radiator guards, did the wiring harness on the left side still fit between the radiator and the frame, or did you have to re-route it over top of the radiator? I've got Enduro Engineering guards on mine, and they provide good protection, but you have to route the harness up and over the radiator, which stretches it a bit tight.
