  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st Please post pictures of your 2 stroke bikes.

Later,

My '06 WR 250 that I traded my '03 YZ250F for:
The first picture is when I first picked it up and the second is one I took yesterday.
When I picked it up it was in rough shape with lot's of surface rust. Chain was dry and solid rust. The bike was washed and put away wet, but HARDLY ridden! Weren't even any boot scuffs on the frame. (I scuffed the frame with my boots within the first half hour of riding it!) IMG_20111008_171131.jpg
Here it is now with the '11 shrouds, '08 headlight mask, and '10 WR 250 decals. Not to mention Pipe Guard, Skid Plate, Grips, Cycra/Moose Hand Guards, and lots of maintenance!

Here are my FREE homemade peg extensions that make a WORLD of difference! Used to have $100 Off Road pegs on my Yamaha and going back to stock pegs was really awkward. They make it a lot easier to stand up through the nasty stuff, and I NEVER slide around on the pegs.

Here's my FREE homemade shifter extension. Stock was WAY too short for my size 11 boot. Shifter is bent from hitting a log on my last ride but you get the idea. Shifter bent at the shaft mount, not at my weld.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think! Still have a lot of impending mods. i.e. FWW, Powder coat the wheels black etc. Other than that, the bike out performs my YZ250F by a huge amount. I thought my Yamaha was light but there's no comparison with the Husky in the tight singletrack. The bike fits my 6' frame perfectly too. Not a bad trade!

Haha, I like how it DIDN'T bend at the weld...

Anyways, nice going... I wear a size 14 boot, and have been wondering if extending my shifter and rear brake would be more comfortable. Thinking it might be akward, since I'm used to the stock length..

Since I'm not a welder, are there companies that manufacture parts for "larger" fellows like myself??

Hammerhead designs

Yeah since my shifter is pretty bent now I might just end up getting a cheapo msr and putting a Hammerhead +20mm shift tip on it. Can't find any shifters that state that they're longer than stock. Shift tip seems like the only option.

That's awesome surge. Hopefully one day my little girl will want to ride with her Dad.

Cheers Clete. I may not have reached dad/child bike nirvana yet, my little guy is scared of the sound of an idling bike... Hopefully he overcomes all that shortly!

I have a ways go as well. My little girl hates anything loud. She doesn't like my car, she says it's too loud, and stinky...

Never count a kid out of riding. My son was maybe 7-8 and didn't really get along with his husky 50. At about 12 he was on board the XR80 and loving it. Now at almost 15 he's outgrowing his KTM 85 and by spring will probably be on his dad's first husky. We've had some minor epic rides together but I know there's more to come and can't wait as he moves on to a bigger bike.

Here's his progression
Maybe 1 tank of gas thru it and he was done.

He rode this at 12 and really caught on. The XR power was much easier to learn on.

I won't post the KTM 85 pic, we've all seen em.

Here's his next bike, I now have my 02 blue headlamp on it and it looks much better but this is a fun bike that I've had since new in '88. He's ridden it a couple times and seems to have picked out a christmas list with some gear to match it so he's getting ready to ride it.

And then I suppose he's gonna wanna get his paws on this.

I hope your boy knows how lucky he is!
I wish my old man had husky's lying around the house for me to ride when I was a kid!!!
