• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Nice Pics! What tires are those and how do they compare to distanzas?

Hey, rocko! The front is a Pirelli MT60 and the rear is a Shinko 705. I've never run 17" Distanzias. We've run them on dirt wheels on the WR426 and KTM450 but it's kind of hard to compare them to 17's. The MT60 is a really sticky tire, works like a trials tire in the dirt, sticks like a rain tire on wet pavement, inspires tons of confidence in rocky creek crossings and dry pavement...works great for what I'm doing with the bike. Mud and deep sand are adventurous but I just spent a week down in the Sierra NF and rode tons of decomposed granite, sand, rocks and dry dirt and had no issues whatsoever. It ain't a knobby, and it's huge...but with the right attitude you can have limitless fun on and off road :D The rear Shinko is a tad slidey on pavement but it's predictable, and with the sticky front holding down the fort I don't really worry about the rear...it can pretty much do what it wants and it doesn't bother me :excuseme: It works well enough in the dirt for me to have gone through a few sets of them. They're cheap and they last awhile, and that allows me to indulge in the zillion-dollar MT60 fronts on a regular basis :) I also run knobbies on the 17's if I think I'm going to be in the dirt most of the time. Usually, though, I just run dualsporty stuff and the tire combo works great.

I spent last week riding and camping in the Sierra National Forest

That sunset pic is mind blowing, is that a rainbow ? Yeah, that granite is awesome... even the Rubicon is impressed... that is
if the Rubicon had a consciousness it would be impressed.

Yeah, it's a double rainbow...cool, huh? We were down in the creek, playing under bright blue sunny skies, and we started noticing big puffy "nuclear explosion" clouds creeping in on the horizon. They just kept getting closer and closer, then started looking a bit ominous. We cleaned up the campsite, covering stuff and making sure nothing would get wet in the event of rain, then we got to sit back and enjoy the show when the raindrops finally started falling...spectacular! Funny thing, though...the sky was blue and clear to the east where the sun was setting; it was only raining right on us and to the west a ways.

This is the actual sunset and the creek we were playing in earlier in the day. The water was running across hot granite slab all day and was nice and warm. We played in it quite awhile...

My '03 TE610e just got changed into a TE610eSM.

The maneuverability at speed is incredible with the 17" sumo wheels. I was doing slaloms with the reflectors on the DY in a long section of straight at 40 mph. Any of my street bikes would have had problems doing that at 25-30.

I broke off one of the damn pinch bolts even though I wasn't torquing it much, so I kept today's ride short. Only about 80 miles. The bolts are a bit unique, so I'll have to order them. They seem really weak, so I'm going to order a spare set. Hopefully I can drill it out ok. I'm going enlist the help of a friend that has more tools and equipment than most pro shops. He's good at this kinda stuff.

Awesome photography. I feel like I was there! I wish I was there. What camera did you use?

Well, you should have been there, and now you can be there! :D

I use a little point-and-shoot Lumix DMC-ZS10. It's a pretty cool little camera. My photos look much better since I got it a few years ago.
I got one for Eric, too, when they had them at Costco for $279 and now he actually takes photos of me when we're riding :)

Nice bikes and pictures here. Especially those cool granite bike pictures.

Well I've had an 08 610 since new and always kinda wished I'd gotten a carbed bike. I know... "wierd".
When I saw the low miles 06 Eric got and thought
"how nice is that!". So when Bill told me about an 07 with 230 miles on it, I couldn't resist.
