  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

oil level screw?

2wheels

Husqvarna
B Class
did my oil and filter Friday. drained oil and refilled with 1.7 litres? correct? 2004 te450
anyhow it was leaking oil on the track and a mate suggested it had too much oil. we undid the level screw and oil poured out. however I've now dropped the oil and have only git a litre out of it? any ideas chaps?

just watched a youtube vid stating they take 1, 4l not 1, 7 is this right? also I take it you have the bike upright when utilising the level screw? only just realised it has 2 metal screen filters too :-/

Yes, congratulations on finding out that your Husky will "self level" it's oil. When you do your oil change, you should always remove the covers on the two oil screens, and inspect and clean those screens. Once those and the oil filter have been removed, you will have let the maximum amount of oil out of your engine. I have an 07 450, and only put in about 1.5 liters of oil after making sure that the engine is as completely drained as possible.

right. dropped the oil today. warmed up frost for 10 mins. took the metal filters out and tipped over to get the last little bit of oil out. went to put the oil back in. (only been in 2 hours) and it started coming out if the drain hole straight away? am I missing something? lol

bike has been sat now for a couple of weeks with no oil. I will remove the sump plug again just to be sure oil screens cleaned but not changing the filter as its only been in for about 2 hours. how much oil shall I chuck in it? I'm also replacing the big side Cicero gasket so all oil will or should be out. thanks for any help

1.4 liters. Put in a bit less, take out oil screw and check. Put in more until it just starts to seep out of check hole when bike is vertical.

I do not know about the 2004, but on my 2006 TE250 the oil check screw is too low, it was supposed to be higher up i.e. it is supposed to have more oil than what is at the check screw.

If the oil is too high it will smoke like a 2st until it stops, if it is too low then it is hard to shift... at least on my bike.

and obviously the manual just says "fill with the required amount of oil"
I realize the 2011 is different with the oil window but my 2011 manual says the same thing! when you look up the capacities it lists a couple different ways to measure. Imp or US and I think metric (Max 1151??)

This! There is a bit of confusion in the manuals over the proper amount of oil that the "Cagiva" four strokes take - I'm sure that it was revised from 1.4 l to 1.7 l (which is what I always put in). This is compounded by the check bolt being too low (and prone to leaking, stripping, or both). As the motor's crankcase volume is small and it revs to eternity (mine seems to anyway!) they're also prone to blowing a bit of oil out of the breather, so regular level checking is essential. That's why I bought a 7602 Racing clutch cover with a built in oil sight glass. The best £100 I could have spent. If your bike is a keeper I recommend one, otherwise it's all oily garage floors and guesswork!

Hello there, I just swapped out the old oil from previous owner and put in new oil at recommended 1.7 L as per his notes with replacing the oil filter. Question....I also have the sight window here....do you now bypass the check oil screw and use sight glass...what are your tips? Thanks in advance

Yes, now that you have the window, don't remove the oil check screw. Window should be about 3/4 full with bike standing straight up with engine off. around 1/2 full with engine running.

Just came back from a little tour around the local streets (still sloppy here for trail). Level was where you had indicated it should be at rest (engine off) and appeared to be a little less with engine running, however.....that was when cold. Thanks for clarifying this...just read that you are the owner of 7602 ;)

No problem. Hopefully those trails dry out soon.

if I can fix the bloody leaks on mine I'll look into those. although I can't see it on the link?
I don't think you mentioned it, but how much comes out of the oil check plug? I love my manual directions on checking oil...."..and check the oil should just barely escape from the hole.." That is verbatim. Got to love that Italian to English translation in specificity and grammatical use. The book also notes below in * to "have this operation made with warmed-up engine.

Oil and filter replacement:
Imp. Quarts 1.5
U.S. Quarts 1.8

Oil Replacement:
IMP. Quarts 1.3
U.S. Quarts 1.6

Coffee, now why did you have to go say that. Now I'm wondering if my oil bolt is too low on my '06 TE450. :excuseme:
