  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oil Change Schedule for X-Lite

I do oil/filter changers no more than 500km. Using motul 7100 ester 10w60. My riding is little adventures of about 200km,motorcross or just trailriding with mates and there sons.

Until I decided to try the 0w-40 Mobil in my 511 Ive been running Torco Synthetic in all my bikes.
Never a problem. Its what BMP uses and sells to almost everyone.

According to Amsoil, the Torco synthetic is not good for gearboxes. http://www.hdoil.co/Amsoil-10w40-Motorcycle-Oil.html

Hmmmm...imagine that; Amsoil has a study that says Amsoil is gooder

I know of several hundred BMP customers riding around and shifting fine....but BMP sells Amsoil and other brands too for those with different preferences. Personally Ive ran the Torco in a 610, Buell, 511, 499, WR250, TE250, K1200RS, F800ST and the current TXC310R. Never had any trouble shifting any of them, nor had any kind of tranny failure. I know where half of those bikes are and a couple of them now have several thousand miles on them running the Torco.

I did have Torco dino in my 1974 Bultaco Pursang when the crank sheared off mid moto...but that was on the dry side of the crank so I dont think we can blame the oil :)

Personally I think the secret is to use something that fits spec and change it often. I use the Torco because my dealer sells it and trusts it and my personal experience has so far proven it perfectly effective at the job.

Well, first off, you have to understand that Amsoil is also a huge marketing firm. They have always claimed to be superior to Mobil1. So when Pennzoil Ultra came to market, now they claim to be of the exact quality as Ultra. When you look at the specifications, you will see that Mobil1 is ever so slightly better than Ultra.

Secondly, Torco is very high quality, but honestly the only reason why we use it is because Ty is paying for it. Personally, I am not going to pay $23 for a quart of Torco for my motorcycles, especially when Mobil1 is better anyway. $5 versus $23, nope, Mobil1 and Shell T6 look pretty good on my end.

Lastly, in no way am I saying you shouldn't run Amsoil, Torco or any other brand. If paying 400% mark up makes you sleep better at night, by all means.
