oil change and oring sizes

So, i need to change the oil in my terra, but non-mean brother said I needed to get all the orings and copper washers first.

so, we have a napa, but I don't know what size and how many of these things to get.

i told him that a lot of you heat up the washers and reuse them, and he said that works but they're cheap so i might as well change them.

The oil change thread I believe has all those sizes in it. Can't search right now and don't recall off the top of my head, but you might want to start looking through that one.

so here's what I found and can come up with so far using the parts manual book.

oil filter oring:
7700123

oring on allen key fitting thing by the seat:
8539140


drain plug washer:
7700241

but that doesn't tell me what size they are!

Dunno if it's worth anything but I only change out the copper crush washers every other oil change. That's how I've operated with all of my bikes and I've never had a weep/leak.
Also, Abby, have you seen the oil filter BMW kit? It contains all the washers you need...granted, you'll be waiting a couple days for it to arrive. I keep a few in stock so I don't need to wait around.

I am fairly sure all of the washers and orings are the same sizes as per "pre-2007 F650GS" and "post-2008 G650GS" BMW models so you might find the answers you're looking for by searching for those instead.

All, except the washer that goes on the frame tank drain plug above the engine. This washer is unique to the husky.

that's helpful, but only so helpful if you have a bmw dealer you can get the parts from---which i don't.
what i'm looking for is a parts sheet or something I can take to napa and be like "give me 3 of each one of these"

i have to be missing something. when the rest of you are chaning the oil, do you just not replace the orings and use whatever is there?
it seems to me that eveyrbody know what no fit, but no what do fit!!!

Washer sizes are 30mm x 23mm and 14mm x 10mm in copper of course

I've done a few oil changes on the Terra and have not changed the washers or o-rings yet. No problems and no leaks.

Exactly. For me, since the BMW kit had most of it, I didn't need to know. And reusing those washers once isn't usually a problem, so I just reused the one that the BMW kit didn't come with.

FWIW I don’t have a BMW or Husky dealer anywhere near me either.
I simply ordered the parts I needed before I went to do the change.
I ordered up a few of each of the washers and the o-ring.

I was sure I was going to bugger the upper tank drain hex plug so I ordered a spare one of those too.
I didn’t bugger it, but I am still glad I have a spare.

I never change the o-rings or washers on any my bikes (I have 14 right now). I did the oil change on my TR650 Terra and didn't change any of o-rings or washers. No leaks. I have bikes running over 75,000 miles that have never had an o-ring or washer changed unless it was physically damaged. Never a single leak.

This in no way, shape or form advocates doing this. Do not try this at home. This is just what I do, not what you should do.

Copper washers can be reused by annealing them. Heat them up to cherry red then quench in water. This will soften them for reuse if you have trouble sourcing new items.

Grainger sells the smaller ones for $3.27 in 25 count for 14mm x 10mm They don't appear to have the 30mm x 23mm.

I'm not able to source 30mm critters online...at least in quantities in less than 100 or exorbitant prices.

I have had a very small leak with the 14mm one on the top of the engine. Not a biggy and might try the annealing trick...but it would be nice to have a nice supply of washers available to use.

The 23mm is the important measure...I swear it was on here, maybe it was on the adv thread. Something like a Honda car uses the same size on the oil drain, so it should be readily available.

The Husky OEM small gasket was $0.21 and the large one was $1.60 on line from ktm-parts.com.
Not exactly bank breakers
