• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

NW Gathering Round 3 - November 7-11 2012

General throwing out: I now have two spots available in my trailer if anybody in the Salem area needs a haul. I'll be leaving either Thursday night or Friday morning, I haven't decided yet.

Coffee, it was good to meet you (kinda quick-like) at Bill's today. And yes, it *IS* Husky Heaven, I'm so lucky to be so close to them :)

I examined your trailer, I like it, very clever. I'd seen them on YouTube I think. If you'd like I could bring my SM for you to pull it with, but I don't think it would be much different handling-wise than your TE. That said, I'd like to take it for a short spin at some point, if I may.

*note to self: Make sure Kelly has a backup camera when WoodsChick starts drinking.

Also: RV'ing is not camping. Heh.

Trailer drama today

Was supposed to pick up my new trailer tire today, but the tire place couldn't get the bead seated. More stuff coming tomorrow so hopefully it will be a done deal. Was planning on leaving tomorrow right after work, now I will be dealing with the trailer instead :( Hope the tire place comes up with a solution. I will have to leave first thing Thursday morning and pull the all day solo 12 hour marathon trek. Ugh...

If that is the case, considering it gets dark early (time change already happened), go directly to the Red Lion. :)

Awesome Walt.

This is an inside joke from our Moab trip two years ago and one FUNNY freaking one at that. Will have to tell that story this weekend to all you drunks.

I think I still have that video, I was told I could never post it though. Classic stuff!

I wish I could make it down this year but just can't make it happen with the new job and all.

Everyone have fun and stay safe!

Later,

Reporting live from the Pacific North Wet....

Yesterday I went to heaven, or at least Husqvarna heaven - Bills Motorcycle Plus, and will be going back to Bills today. I will be leaving Salem tomorrow (Wednesday) morning and going out to Camp 25... then checking into a hotel for 4 nights, checking out Sunday morning. I booked the hotel in Bend on Sunday, but it appears that hotel will be inundated with interesting characters (Red Lion Inn :))

I am not sure what Bills (and more importantly Bryons with the demo bikes) schedule is, will try to find out today.

I was wondering about the truck with Cali plates on it parked in front of Bill's yesterday around noon. I'll have to smack Bryon next time I see him for not telling me you were there..

Looks like I am going to have to bail on this trip unless my back gets better in the next 24 hours. I hurt it last Friday and it is just getting progressively worse. Everyone (especially WoodsChick) be safe out there.

Trailer drama over, bikes and wine loaded, nails painted, alarm set. See y'all tomorrow night if the good lord's willing and the creeks don't rise.
When/where is dinner?

I think Bryon likes the attention.. so please do. :)

Things I will never type. Wine loaded and nails polished. :D

I've no idea what anyone elses schedule is but here is a general update.

  • Arrived with Bryon et al at camp 25 yesterday about 4pm, xcuvator was there already, and also the person that was seeking info on what could replace his xr400 (moving to a different country).
  • I left about 5pm to go to the red lion in Bend.
  • I do not have a map of Bend, but the road going from Weed CA to Bend (97) is actually 3rd street, the street the red lion is on. If anyone coming from CA wanted to get to the red lion instead of Camp 25 - simply continue past the right hand turn in the middle of town onto highway 20 east. red lion is about 1/2 mile down on the left next to the Black Bear restaurant.
  • The red lion is *real* nice, as is the breakfast they serve.
  • No idea who it might be, but there is a white honda pickup (ridge line?) with a far too clean Husky 2st in the back of it in the parking lot at the moment...
  • The weather people on the tv say it will start to get cold about noon, right now it is about 32F?, but does not feel that cold.
  • I will try to get out to camp 25 by mid-morning, and try to put 100,000 miles on Bills TR650 strada today :)
  • Then probably about 5pm again go back to Bend - suffice it to say the tires on my truck are not ideal for the snow they are expecting later today and would prefer to drive while there is a bit of light. A lot depends on the weather.
