  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Nomad tank for 449/511 details...

I think you switched breathers. the Nomad gets directed to the side of the tank next to the cap.

Good point. It clearly shows which breather to hook it to. Maybe the other one breaths into the airbox and why he had an issue. Not even shure how you would hook it up that way but i see no way to get gas into the airbox any other way.

Should attach like this...

Yep, mine looks exactly like your's Kelly. It is not hooked up wrong, I don't even know how one could screw that up. In addition to gas pouring out the side of the bike and the airbox, we have also discovered that the brass fitting for the fuel-out line is also leaking. Nomad suggests refitting it using yellow teflon tape to help seal the leak. I think I will also look for a fitting to just plug the hole and turn this thing into just an extra fuel tank. Problem is we are already in Colorado getting ready for ADV Westfest, so there isn't much I can do now. Big disappointment since the reason I purchased this was for extended range at ADV Westfest.

PS- there is no doubt the Nomad was causing the issues, now that it is off the bike there is no gas coming from either the side of the bike or the airbox.

Kelly, can you do us a favor? Can you follow that now disabled (disconnected) black line to its end? Mine goes up the fender, through some kind of gray and green gadget, then up to the fuel injector area, and just terminates, pointing straight up in the air. Even with the Nomad off, we are now seeing fuel sporadically flowing from this line. Several of us worked on the TE today at Westfest, and ended up plugging the open end to stop the gas from pouring out, and the bike ran fine. So we are all wondering why this line even exists if you can plug it up. Meanwhile, the leaking brass connector on the Nomad seems to be fixed with Permatex, but not reinstalled yet, with this mystery hose acting crazy.

First off do not run that tank. I mean you can if you want but i am more than happy to exchange it for a new one that i test here with air for leaks (which i will be doing on all tanks now) If you are in a pinch and need to run it fine but return it for a new one when you are done. I want you to have a new perfect one.

As for the overflow line thats how they are, the doohiky is a one way valve and the other end should be open. The only reason gas is coming out is there is some trapped in the line from before you took it of as it does not connect anywhere else.

I believe that line used to go to your smog canister. Just took mine off week before last. I ran it back around to the left side since it was long enough to wrap around. The green and grey thing is a one way valve that originally was meant to keep the gas in and allow vapor to reenter the tank. Mine worked ok that way but on some harder trails, it dumped gas onto the swingarm and chain guard. Guess it doesn't like to be too full of gas. Thinking I'll be rerouting that puppy soon.

Ah, didn't think about the smog canister since it didn't make it out of the dealer. Anyway, update to the update:
Rode 65 miles today without the Nomad and had no gas issues. This afternoon we reinstalled the Nomad now that the permatex had time to set up on the bad fuel fitting. Hooked everything up exactly as before, rode 10 miles trying to be as rough as possible. No leaks, no mystery gas dumping. Go figure. I'm glad I had a witness and helper to all this (99577) or you all would think I'm a lune. Unless something reoccurs tomorrow, I guess this case is closed.

Awesome! Nice to know you got it working and that Kelly is ready to stand up for his customers. I know I bitched about the price, but I may have to consider one if I do Barstow to Vegas this year. 80 miles between gas stops is sorta pushing it unless I just go slow on the easy loop.

I think it looks pretty cool actually. Wish there was something decent for my 250. In Indo it's hard enough to find a gas station out in the boonies, much less one that sells premium. Well, at least I don't have the ethanol problem I keep hearing about.

Exactly. Having that tank on and knowing that you have another 40 miles or so range is a big help. It stays put no matter what you ride over also. 65 miles of trails yesterday and no issues.

Still more than willing to swap it out for a new one if you like. Will be back int he office Wednesday, shoot me an Email if you would like me to get a new one out to you.

Emailed Mick at nomad to order a tank and he informed me he'd just made up a mould for a 4.5l tank for the 449/511. Similar look but a bit taller. Should have one in a few days :D

I just bought the 5.5 liter option for my TE310 tank number 3 on the Nomads website and it fits well but the guy from Nomad tanks here in Australia told me he just finished making a 4.5 liter version for the TE449 511 if anyone is interested it is not on the website but contact via the web site and they will contact you.

Sorry Kelly, haven't been on here for a while. Thanks, but Mick was going to send one directly to me, not to bother you. However, 5 weeks later, I haven't seen it. I guess I will be living with the original one.
