Hi everyone,
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Question Darty, would like more info on the material you used for the pipe you made . what gauge , type of steel , did you plasma cut and use a roller , and type of weld. I have been eyeing these old school looking pipes and would love to build one. And the stinger at the end before the silencer ...

Going to go all new plastics. Going to hold off till end of builds. My shop can get quite dusty from all work I'm doing. So think it better to wait.

Ok, this one gonna be a beech! I have to go from 1 1/2 " from cylinder to 2 1/2 inches where it meets cone to go upward.
Plus, to make matters worse. The exhaust outlet on the tiddler cylinder is a lot lower.
Also, have all my new silencer parts made and waiting on tube to get back from anodizer.
I will see if I can get this 125 pipe wrapped up this coming weekend.

I know I made one of my best friends happy! His wife contacted me secretly about month ago and asked me if I would sell my 390. I laughed and said no! Till death do us part! Best friend raced a 78 and 79 Cr 390 and got second place in nationals in 1980. So, I promised her we would find him a bike for his surprise B day party.
This one was lil toughy cause mostly was over priced junk out there that needed totally restored. It also had to be a Cr. There were a lot of OR and WR's out there. There was no way I could restore one in just couple weeks, from top to bottom. I found one about 95 % restored and sent my son to go purchase it. It was 12 hour drive one way but we pulled it off. plan B was for me to go grab it since i had to travel as well. So I spent next two weeks getting all the bugs worked out of it. Incorrect stuff like nuts, bolts, fender was hitting pipe, no correct shock spacers, (that I had to machine), no husky logo on back seat and got his numbers on bike. I also said heck and switched out some parts off of my bike. Changed oil, new plug and corrected the timing. Also, rounded up an old swing arm and welded a new kickstand bracket on and a tensioner bracket. I did not have time to paint but will send later, this spring. I put a set of original bars in there and original set of new magura grips. Grabbed a cheap harbor freight bike stand and painted it gold and stuck stickers all over it.
I met his son and daughter half way between Chicago and Cleveland, so they could take bike and hide it.
In the mean time, his wife and I kept priming the pump. I sent him the John Penton video to watch.
We all grew up around the Pentons and saw them at races back in day.
He kept telling his wife that he could kick himself for selling his old 390. He been on this 390 fever cause I send him pictures of my bikes as I work on them.
I texted his wife through out whole process as it took place with pictures. When I sent her pic of bike done with his numbers on it. She said it made her cry. She worked at the races back in day at sign up.
His surprise Bday was last Wednesday night, before thanksgiving. I sure wish I could have been there but I would of had to drive back the same night for 8-9 hours. We had a lot of company coming over for Thanksgiving.
They sent me a video that night, as they opened the garage door, with his son manning the throttle. The look on his face said it all. He is one of many friends that treated me like a big brother when I was a kid. I couldn't hardly wait to see the red Ford van coming down road, early Sunday morns, with trailer and 3 Husky's on it. I went with them to every race and quick filled them at every Harescramble. They were some of the best racers back then. So, this was my way of paying one of them back.
