  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

had bike for a week, about 30 miles on it, and it finally fell over. i was wondering how long it would take, saw it goin down and didn panic or cuss or anything, its like its supposed to do that. the brake lever broke were its supposed to and dinged up the end of the grip. o well

Now you are truly a husky owner. :lol:Having the bike and riding it is only 2/3 of the equation. Watching your new pony crash to the ground makes it complete.

i got bark busters on mine to stop breaking levers but also when in the garage, it sits up on a rear axle triangle.. cant fall over then... but yes, shockingly bad stand on huskies..

lucky it fell over in slow motion or it may have hurt it more.

u gotta knock holes n the end of the grips to use the bark busters?

so is it normal for my kickstand to look like this? Sorry to jack your thread :P - http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/3797/img00891.jpg

:banghead:

yeah, cut out grip end and put bolt in end of bars.. easy and saves all the damage from falling off and it dropping etc..

Can't see from the photo what it is that you're asking about? The stand looks reasonably "normal" as far as I can see; they bend noticeably just under the weight of the bike, and once down they're so close in to the bike that it can topple either to the left or the right if it's on any kind of incline (or a breath of wind hits it, or you leave the motor running, etc), especially if you haven't had the bolt modified to stop it auto-retracting. Also you can't get the stand down on level ground without leaning the bike a fair bit away from you as the stand swings past the vertical position.

So if it's just the above then no matter how unlikely it seems, your stand's "normal"!

And +1 on the bark busters or similar guards - sure saved me some sore fingers and damaged levers.

yeah, i noticed my stand seemed to bend under the weight of the bike, and it really scared me.

Aftermarket kickstand will be next :P

Can't remember how much mileage I had when mine went down, 300 km or less. Left it idling to warm up, knew it would walk backwards, so me being the genius I am, I put a 2X4 behind the rear tire. Guess what, it started walking forwards, I had just noticed it, hobbled over to grab it & was about 6 feet & two seconds too slow. Down it went :banghead:, no damage except a slightly bent bar (have barkbusters). I've kept an eye on it ever since & haven't had it happen again. Keep thinking about changing the auto retract feature, but I kinda like it :excuseme:

One of these days I'll order a new bar.

if the bar didnt go so far front, i don't think it'd be bad at all. like how I posted my pic, its leaning on the bar, and bending it front. eek!

Sorry I meant my handle bar. My kickstand does what it's suppose to do. Just have to keep an eye on the bike while it's warming up. Taking the right precautions to prevent another tip over is infinitely cheaper than any other option. :D

I use a short section of sharpened 3/4" copper pipe to cut a nice clean round hole in my grips. Quick and easy, just light pressure with a twist does the trick.

I really have been impressed with the G2 threaded inserts in the bars of my TXC. I believe BRP (site sponsor) offers them too, but G2 sponsors me so........either way they are definitely better (more secure) than the expansion anchors. If you go the barkbusters route, and I'd recommend it, you owe it to yourself to at least check them out.

I put Probends on my bikes before they even get ridden. I've never broken a lever....or mashed fingers. Money well spent.

ya mine was warming up, went back to get the helmet and THAR SHE GOES!!

That happened to mine before I even had a chance to ride it for the first time.. Just was letting it warm up and of the edge of the driveway it went.

broken clutch lever
broken factory hand guard
broken blinker
shift lever cracked the case

I pit a paver behind the rear wheel to stop the crawling, it didn't occur to me that it may go the other so cheers for the heads up, as yes my fell off the stand the 2nd day of ownership

The guy at the shop where I bought mine told me to cut the little kickstand nub off so it wouldn't fall off the stand. As soon as I got home I got my cut-off wheel out and cut that little nub off. Now it sits on the stand and I don't have to worry about it falling over.

The dealer where I bought my SMR510 had actually cable tied the Huskies bike stands to hold them in position so to prevent them from falling over when some unknowing (idiot) wanders up and touches the bike. With all the bikes standing side by side, the resultant domino effect would have been both incredibly spectacular and sad at the same time.

I really like the auto-retract. Hope on start and go. The only down side is I am now very cautious as to where I park my bike in the city. The smallest bump and it's over.
