  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Looking for some FE501 Feedback

They have them, maybe not on the web. Give them a call.

Just spoke to them and they are not available. They asked many people and all said this was not the case.
I am providing some info they requested on mine to see what they can do.

Ill update as I get info.

I have the ecu programmer for the 350 and 501's but I have not tried it on an S model yet.
so do we (Andy FE350S) still need to keep our vegas appointment...or should we stop in to oak hills before heading the rest of way up the 15 for a trial run at S ECU map burn....?

Wish me luck. I'm hoping to be a 501 owner early next week. Previous owner really took care of it and has it all dialed in. Thankfully I weight as much as him, I'll just have to play with the sag at most.

Here's what the bike has
Like new 2014 Husky FE 501. Exceptionally well maintained with oil change after every ride. Vet owned and never raced. Bike has GTR Suspension, must have for New England Riding, TM Design slide and guide chain block kit, bark busters(also have new original hand guards), front and rear disc protectors, and Core EXP Rekluse clutch(also have never used original clutch). Skid plate not shown in pictures while on stand. Bike has all Blue Anodized bolts and covers(also have all original equipment including Husqvarna Manuel, tools and rear spring). Bike with Scotts Steering Dampener 6500, without 6200. (FIRM)

How many hours are on this bike? That seems like a really good deal considering he spent about $12,000 to build the bike.

I just picked up a new 15 FE501. NOT the S model. I'm confused about this euro remap. Does the non S model need a reflash or not?

You cannot modify the ecu on a 501s easily. It can be done, but you are plugged into KTM's computer and if they see you modify out of spec, they cut you off and pull your license. I much better option is to see if a 501 ecu will fit in a 501s socket. If the answer is no, check to see how much a FC450 ecu and harness is, because it can be fully modded and have up to 10 maps loaded.

Has anybody confirmed a Non S ECU can be used on a 501S model?

In addition, that the Euro map for a 501 supports the different ignition mapping options for 2 or 3 position handlebar switches?

I'm considering a 501S but want to nail down the ECU/map options first. I'd really rather be able to do a remap than use a PC5. I have a PC5+AT on my Husky TR650 so I'm quite familiar with them.

In general I really like FI, but with all the hassles of getting them reflashed these days carbs "almost" start to sound better. At least there were no restrictions with changing the jetting.

Thanks for those posting the info on the Acerbis 4.1 gal tank, that's perfect.

Any comments on good options for a 501S Tinken?

AND if it does, what's the advantage? Also doesn't it have 3 modes to switch to?

It doesn't NEED a reflash but it will run smoother and cooler with the EU map. If you opt for a switch you can choose from 3 maps. I did this and like it but it wasn't required. It will run pretty good stock. I'm referring to the non S model here.

I can map a non-S model from mild-to-omfg. Haven't tried the S model yet.

I agree, the wild mode on my 501 is wild indeed. It revvs to the limiter much quicker than the base mode. The mild map is nice for tight woods riding as well.

Forgot to mention that I'm averaging 48 mpg so far. Sometimes 50 if riding open trails. As a reference I have the Euro map flashed on the ECU. Very happy with the range with just the stock tank. The areas I ride have plentiful gas stations spread out and 120 mile range is plenty for this guy. If I trash my radiator plastics I may consider doing a Acerbis 4.1 though.;) Loving the bike so far. The forks are tremendous too.

So is this 100 miles per tank approx? Gonna try a 100 mile desert race for the first time this spring. Two 50 mile laps. If I can make one lap then I am golden. Thanks

Getting 100 consistently with 13/49 gearing. If I ride really tight single track I can do 75 miles. Forks turned crappy too. I pick my reworked suspension up Monday.

Tinken,
I'm seeing lots of hate for the PC155 oil filter on KTMtalk for these 510cc motors. People talking about issues with cavitation and bypass valves.
I actually bought a PC155, but am nervous to install it.

Since I trust your opinion would you mind explaining what these folks are talking about and if it truly is an issue. I believe it was an issue on the older style motors, but I cant find any comforting words on the XC4 (or whatever they're called) single cam motors. Thanks!

We run them in our race bikes. Cavitation has nothing to do with the stainless steel filter. There is a bypass valve, but it will probably never use it due to the extreme flow.
