As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
We finally tore our FE501 down for a rebuild at 59 hours of Ty Davis on it. Tossed a micrometer on the rod journal and for the first time ever, no wear. 12 KTM's rebuilt last week, all requiring new journals and rods, ours, not even a blemish. Our new 501 racing engine is almost complete and ready for V2R. Can't wait to play on the dyno, definitely the most powerful Husky we have built to date.![]()
No wear, we were able rebuild the engine as if it were new. Not sure on the TPS, that was adjusted by KTM. I can however see that it was readjusted since the factory. How was the wrist pin bushing and wrist pin? I've typically found this the be the weak spot in allot of high output single cylinder 4 strokes..
What does he have the TPS set at on his race bike?
I think its a combination of a few things. 0W40, SS filters & XF coolant. Also we break these engines in slowly which keeps them from heating excessively and hotspots are reduced.Nice. I'm guessing Mobile one 0-40?
I read somewhere guys with Berg where running a different fan switch. It turned on a lot cooler than stock, like 170-180.

Yes, all 510cc KTM engines. Yes, the V2R will be interesting. Are these motors the same as the 2014 KTM 500?
And I just drove through Reno the other day on my way to Mammoth. Temps were in the 70's and it POURED there yesterday. The race should be great. Good luck!
Agreed! The trails are fun. A guy could get used to living up hereThat area up by Bayfield is a blast. Drummond on up is spectacular and that whooped out sandy atv trail is a good test for the suspension.
Was reading the manual last night and noticed commentary that the engine oil will run hotter when continuously slipping the clutch at slow speeds or just using the clutch allot...
