    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Well went riding yesterday.. a bit wet a bit muddy. Had stopped for a break and a chin wag with the boys. I was telling them about the marvels of my JD TUNER under my seat. We were having a looksee, proudly show it off and all. Gave the throttle a Rapp like we all do, turned it off , then proceeded to get my gear bake then went to start her up and then nothing. Lights on but no start. Pulled the seat off for a look hit the button again and no fire in the hole. All the lights were blinking like it should but dead on the ignition. What the f&%$ do I do now.. so I went on to disconnect the tuner and plug the std unit back in... After about 30min it started, idling very high so reset tps. Idled it back down and all good. The question is..what failed.... Did I do something to when I was playing... look at me ... And now their is a FAIL flag on my Speedo... It all runs ok but I'm thinking not really...****************************************
 
May not have been the JD, but a fault in the bike itself, like wet/loose connection....
I'd start by checking all your efi connections dude. (Make sure not to have the ignition switch on with wires disconnected)
Spray inside the plugs with a good electrical cleaner & treat the pins with some dielectric grease.
Disconnect the battery to clear the Fail & see if it helps.
If not start checking the sensors one at a time as per the manual....
 
I know, it just seems weird that I had been goofing around show my mates just before it died. And to plug the normal map back in and it start straight up seems a bit strange.... I am thinking that I may have fried the unit, but all the lights were blinking but no start...
 
They (JD units) can fail, mine did. I think water may have got into it somehow even though it was under tthe seat. Plug it back in and con firm that it doesnt start. Then you can blame the tuner instead of hunting for a gremlin that may not exist.
 
will most probably plug it back in to confirm the failure. Contacted JD Rep here in Vic, they believe it should reset after TPS reset seeing how it was probably me revving it and turning it off whilst in the middle of a setting change....DOh.... Am waiting for the garage to get at least warm enough so my hands don't freeze
 
Forecast was for snow down to possibly sea level in Tas. Not sure if it got that cold but confirmed down to 200m in parts. It was 23C in NSW today but its about 5C now and about -5C with wind chill.
 
I'd trade my first born for your weather, either of your's. Forecast here is for 106. It's 9:30 am and already almost 80. It's been like this for weeks. It's not normally this hot for this long, usually stays below 100 most days. 100+ is the exception. The constant 100+ temps get old after a while.
 
Went to open the door to take a peek....no way...still too cold. I'm thinking maybe I bring my baby in side it looked so cold sitting out there... Oh well springs not too far away...

Haha, well our winters are generally mild, 10-20C on the NSW coast but winter is only really winter for about 2 1/2 months. Summer can be pretty hot. Max temps into the 40C's sometimes and isnt uncommon to have a weeks over 30C. Its worse inland over the hills.

Where is it exactly that you had your JD mounted? I had mine on top of the battery, under the retaining strap and it turns out that is not a good place for a JD unit. The seat ended up slowly crushing the tuner box. Luckily JD replaced it for me but they told me not to mount the thing in that location.
 
Check all of your connections also. I had what I thought was a fueling issue with my TXC250, when it was really the ground pin in the connector for the fuel pump relay. I got that solved and the next ride the ground wire for the JD Tuner broke off of the battery.
 
Well it has been a while since I put back the JD Tuner, had no issues until yesterday. Bike started great as always, until yesterdays ride, coming back from a 100k torture fest and the engine started to high idle. My thinking was the 2nd butterfly tab was hitting the cable BF. Got home and removed the stop on the arm that positions the cam. All good, bike revved out and come back to home idle. Come Sundays ride biked started great, went to take off and nothing above idle.. absolutely dead.. first thing was to go back to std map. Did that, still nothing. Having no extra knowledge it was back to the forum brains for some answers. My guess is fuel pump, Fuel Filter or ECU fail. Any one to second that thought....

Do you still have the second butterfly plate in place? If yes, then maybe the butterfly motor isn't doing its thing anymore.
If no, then maybe fuel related as you suggest....
 
Sounds like the ECU is confused? Maybe something is amiss after your work with the BF? Have you taken the power off the system and performed a new TPS reset? All I've got off the top of my head. Good luck, sucks to miss a planned ride for sure!
 
You bet danger...I am in the process of dissembling it ands found badly corroded pins on the coil.. Do you think that would be one of the culprits.... Can't get good resistance readings either. Hope these things don't cost too much..
 
Corrosion certainly won't help at all.
Try a good spray of electronic cleaner & clipping together & removing several times. Then some dielectric grease & see how it is.
It would be a good idea to treat & grease the other connections too. Do them one at a time & see if you can track down the culprit.
