    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Was riding the other day and the bike just died on me. It took forever to start back up. Took the right case off and discovered the nut had backed off even after I hit it with an impact gun. Took the clutch basket off and to my surprise the woodruff key was still in one piece but mangled some. What can cause the bike to not turn over if that nut came loose? My fear is that it James up the oil pump so the head wasnt getting oil. I pulled the spark plug and had some oil in the well. The cam chain is still 7 clicks out. I just don't see how that would cause the bike to not run. Any advice? Already ordered a new woodruff key, washer and nut. Did I damage the case itself or just the pump? Pump still spins free. If you are saying you found oil on the outside of the engine, in the plug well, these engines have a habit of leaking from the rocker cover. Mine leaked, and when i took it apart i found the rocker cover had been fitted without sealant. I just refitted it with instant gasket and the leaking stopped.
Man, that is some bad luck youve had there though.
 
Will it be advisable to get a new cover? The oil pump still spins free but I am worried that the case and rubber seals are damaged. What do the seals do?

Yes the actual pump itself is fine. Just the plate, screws and seal are messed up

Have you looked into getting the damaged screws out and retaining plate and seal out? maybe these are the only parts that need replaced? along with the nut that turned loose and key
 
So managed to get the screws out. Cleaned up the threads, removed the rubber gasket, cleaned up the mangled case with a Dremel. From what I understand, there is a retaining ring (couldn't find it or it might be fused to the nut, the two screws holding it on, the rubber gasket, the circular spring and then the oil pump shaft and beyond. My issue is finding which part to order because the diagram is grainy and tough to read. Ok so I see that the retainer is number 5 and the gasket is 6 on this chart but what number is that circular spring? Or is that included with 6? image (1).gif
 
I ended up ordering x2 number 4, 5 and 6. Hoping that if it does not come with the spring that mine isn't too mangled to reuse.

The spring you are worried about is part of the seal.
Yours has come away from the seal because of the damage, making you think it's a separate part.

Yes, you havent got the metal shell of the seal out, just the rubber inner part.
You should order a new nut and key aswell

I agree, the walls of the casing around where the seal seats are too thin and fragile to simply go at it with a screwdriver and pry it out.
If there is enough of a gap under the seal, you could drill holes on opposite sides through the seal shell and screw some self tappers through, but use the sides of a couple of washers or something for the ends of the screws to push against, so they arent pushing against the soft metal of your case. Maybe file the tips of the screws flat aswell for good measure.

I would wait until you have the new seal before going any further than you already have, so you can look at the new seal and have a better idea of whats what
 
Yeah not going to mess with it for now. Since I have the tank off, gonna check the valves and seal up the rocker cover with RTV to hopefully stop that leak at the head. Unfortunately, parts aren't going to be here until the 20th.
