• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

HF 563 oil filters for 08 and up 4 strokes...

1lunger

Husqvarna
AA Class
I was never told that the 08+ models have a different oil pump/system. I was given the HF 154 oil filter and assumed it was right. The 2008 + bikes should use the newer HF 563 filter. I don't know if this is common knowledge, but I didn't know so heads up to all the 08+ owners. The 563 filter is a bit different than the 154. The 563 has a different amount of fins, better seal and most important, it has a different oil flow bypass system that's made to work with the 08+ redesigned oil pump/system. If you have been using the 154 on your 08+ bike don't worry it's ok. I would however look into getting some HF563 for the future oil changes. If anyone can explain this better, please do. Thanks and I hope this helps.

Huge thanks guys...I didn't realize this and I just changed my oil last week and have the 154 in it. :( Do you think it's really OK to leave it in there for 1K? I'm at 2K now and this is the 4th oil change.

First, if you're changing every 500-1000 miles, you don't need to. This motor is very easy on oil, no high revs, etc, unless you're racing yours. :p
It can easily go 50% of the factory OCI without even batting an eye, so that would be 1500 miles. And certainly not the filter, it can easily go the OCI recommendation. It's not collecting a lot of particulates anyway, keep an eye on your oil color in the site glass. I changed mine at 650 per spec, and just now at 2200. And that's only because I wanted the updated filter in there.

If George says he would only use the old one in a pinch then I wanted the updated one in mine.

Just change the filter out, for $5 it's a cheap date. And you don't need to change the oil too. Peace of mind you know.

I'd agree, cheap peace of mind. Not doing/planning 1K changes, but by the same logic (cheap peace of mind) I changed first at around 300 (as it was a long first outing on it to get it home, and figured why not flush the factory oil and new bike debris out) and then did it again at 630 (didn't plan it that way :) .) That one was to check for more debris and just to err on the side of caution. The last one (so it turns out it's been 3 changes) was at 2064 so a little over 1400. I think 1500 is really it, for my comfort level, as I also use the sight glass and it was looking pretty dark/murky...and I do tend to wail on it pretty routinely (not abusively, of course, but certainly enthusiastically.) Planning a long ride this weekend but it sounds as though it's fine. I'll order some of the 563's tomorrow and install next week.

appreciate that. i just dropped my oil and had a 154 filter ready to put in. i just picked up a 563 to use now.

The Scotts stainless steel oil filter is another option. Pricey though at $70, but it's a one time cost. The SS idea may or may not be for everyone.

I did the exact same thing Eric. ;)

I have never liked SS filters but a lot of guys swear by them. I'd rather remove, throw away, and drop a new HF or KN filter there. I'm old fashioned that way.

So for all of us using the KN 154 filter? We keep using that?
I'm not sure what numbers cross over to the K&N filters, but I would think, if it's 154 then it's the same as the HF 154. Have you looked for K&N 563? I'd check it out and if K&N makes a 563 I'd use it.

I wasn't going to start this thread because I figured I was the only one that didn't know about the new filters, however I'm glad I did. I hope this points others like myself in the right direction!

FWIW, you can swap out the filters while the bikes on its side if its bothering you having the wrong/lesser filter installed, but I'm sure you all know that.

One other thing I'll add, if anyone's new to Husqvarna and having trouble finding neutral or feel like the bikes shifting hard, try using Motul 10/60. I have used other oils and all the good brands, but the Motul makes the bike feel the best!
IMHO.

I sure appreciate it...haven't really followed the Husky 4 strokes forum. I've ordered some 563's and will drop one in next week. This weekend I'll ride...haven't had any issues w/ the 154's I've used up to this point. We've had showers for quite a few weekends and tomorrow it's supposed to be sunny and 80 here, so can't wait to get out and really enjoy a long day of playing on it.

+1!

ok, i'm confused. I looked up the 08 610's and the 154 is listed for HF and KN. does the change only apply to the 630's, 449's, and 511's?

Right, they updated the oil pump design, the new filters updated for that. The 449/511 is a completely different motor, and filter.

For the record the OEM part also ends 563 (may seem obvious to some).
Yes, but when you ask some guy at the dealer for a filter for your bike and he looks on the screen or in the 6" thick book that's not updated and hands you what you think is the correct filter and you go on your merry way thinking you're fine...
