  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hawaiian Husky

Hopefully with more hours on the engine, it will work it's way out. These guys are super tight until broke in. How many hours are on it now.

Mendo do some videos riding your husky on youtube if you can :D would love to see your pov on the husky big fan of all you guys +ab, mike and all :)!

Thanks for the replies, disconnected the battery for a while to reset TPS and did not have any issues on my short jaunt around town today.

Installed my new Seat Concepts seat, wow what a difference! It is actually quite comfortable to ride now. The extra width in the back really helps and the material is very grippy. Great seat! I highly recommend it.

Couple questions after this first ride. First of all wow what a different bike this is now than stock. Feels like a big block muscle car with all the torque.

There were a couple times during the ride where it would die out when I had the clutch pulled in and then would not start without giving it gas. It ran amazing almost the whole ride but there were a few very annoying stall outs for no apparent reason. Is the computer still learning the mapping or is this going to be a consistent problem?

After getting back the ECU from Zip Ty with map 3 installed I kind of assumed it would say Race Map III on the dash but it still says Race Map II. Is this normal?

If it continues to stall, you can try turning your idle up (1/4 to 1/2 turn counter clockwise). Also, as others have said 400-500 miles seems to be the magic break in number and the bikes run much better after this point. On the starting w/gas issue, that's how I typically start mine. Let it crank a couple times and then slowly crack the throttle open. With a higher idle, this may not apply.

Think of the maps as Map set 1,2, and 3; within each map set you have mode I or mode II. Stock is Map 1, mode I. With jumper, it goes to mode II. So now you have Map 3, mode II, which is the best you can do without PCV.

The famous "double rainbow" guy from youtube was visiting the island and we took him out riding searching for rainbows. Beautiful day out exploring the volcano and coast lines.

I must have seen ~hundreds of rainbows, even double ones, when I was on Oahu for ~4yrs ... I even saw the end of a couple of them and no pot of gold was there :( ...

Seems strange to me that after ~4 yrs on Cebu, I hardly ever see a rainbow here ... And it rains often here ...

Ya I have always wondered what it is about the Hawaii region that creates so many rainbows compared to the rest of the world.

Back in Maui after riding for a week out in Moab Utah. Oh my god Moab is insane, like riding on a alien planet. Cant wait to go back!

Took the Husky out on a trail ride today after 3 days of rain, so much mud and the river crossings were fender deep. I had never taken the husky through a water crossing like this before so was a little nervous but she powered through with no issues.

The husky handles great but I still find myself wanting more power, not sure if the bike is underpowered or if I am just spoiled with other big bores aggressive power delivery. Its that initial low end grunt that I love and the husky just doesn't seem to make its power there but more in the mid range and then once its past mid range it doesn't keep pulling hard. I found myself frustrated holding it wide open and not being wowed. For the record I have Map III. Would a power commander make this bike any more powerful? Unfortunately at this point I am not impressed. Thanks!

One of the many cool forward thinking design features. That high mounted airbox makes this bike a submarine.

I have the power commander/auto tune and fmf with the loud insert. Opening the airbox, and the zipty ignition mapping (nick burson flaming ballistic missle blah blah) were the 2 best things I have done. The ignition mod and cutting a huge hole in the airbox allowed my bike to make power above 7k. Before the ignition it was "sluggish", after it was like braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaapppppppppppp!

I would vent the airbox, or get the TC airbox lid if you can. It makes a big difference!
