• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Has anyone gone from Kouba link to internal lowering on a 310?

Thank you Jimmy! I read your posts and see how pleased you are with the outcome!

Same here I am 5'4". I feel like the drag racer chasing every possible 10th he can get out of the car. Insoles in boots with thick socks. Considering a lower profile rear tire when the time comes. Even got a little crazy and looked at the handles on the subframe and thought those could be cut off, form a new seat pan... lol

Do you get more of your feet on the ground with the 1.5" internal lowering vs the link?

Hey 2 wheeler, and Ptkatoomer, and Boogie, Glad you liked my review, 2 wheeler to answer you question Absolutely!!! more feet on the ground, not flat footed but I am totally ok with that, I fit the best on this bike than any other bike I have owned! And guys about sag, yes reset the sag once the bike is lowered, Drew gave a great sag set up instructions for me for the future I can post a pic of it here if you guys want so you can do it yourselves it walks you through it. I had dropped off the whole bike there so we did it together once I came to pick it up, he also gave me clicker recommendations and I tweaked it a bit from our initial and haven't touched it since! I live in the Rocky part of NJ. I mean really rocky and this bike floats! I have also done a dual sport in the southern Jersey sandy trail and the bike did fantastic as well. I am apprx 140lbs without gear so we put softer front springs in as well. I can also check and let you know how far the forks are in the triple clamps as well! Let me know I am Happy to help!

Excellent info and much appreciated help Jimmy!

I'm about 14 lbs heavier without gear and would be ecstatic to get the balls of both feet on the ground.

Haven't even thought about sag as have been singularly focused on seat height.

So how much are your forks up in the triple clamps?

2 wheeler sorry for the delay, I will check the height for you on the forks. do the sag I bet you will get it to squat a bit more, Question do you have a lowering link? or internal Lowered suspension? or stock?

Nevermind I just looked at your original post, I am going to post a few pics for you as well. Your bike looks pretty balanced in the pic, where as mine always felt higher in the front lower in the back Hang tight I am going downstairs now to get some info

You see after the internal lowered suspension, the geometry is quite different, Mine used to look like yours as well, not that's a bad thing, for me I just knew something was a miss.I knew I didnt love the way the bike Handled. And Believe me I am not an A racer. I really dont ever race, I just try and ride Like once a week even for as little as 5-10 miles, But we go out alot. Its usually the same trails so you kinda get to know how you way the bike to react. When I explained the stuff to Drew on the phone he nailed it without ever even meeting me or seeing the bike etc.

Damn I need to clean my bike, everyone always makes fun of how clean my bike is! Well the last ride was really cold and its a was quick was session.

No worries Jimmy thanks for the pics!

Your forks are not shoved up as much as mine. Looks like the rings are up higher on your shock.

Did they replace the spring or is that due to a spacer?

I ran mine up higher than it is now but the spring could be moved up and down on the shock with the wheel off the ground. Way too loose so ran them back down to where the spring was snug and left them there.

So far it appears I could touch the ground better with a 1.5 link and with 1.5 internal lowering. I am sure it goes without saying internal is the better way to go for someone that is not still growing in stature. I just want to make sure I will not be disappointed with the way the feet meet the ground if I pull the trigger on internal lowering. After all that is my primary goal.

Same spring on the rear front forks have new lighter 42 I believe, (I can double ck) I am telling you you wont be disappointed, If you go with the 1.5" Kouba Link I think you need to shave the swingarm cause it may rub, at least that's what I was told. Just make sure you use someone reputable, Depending on location you know my vote! Lol Keep me posted!

We did a dual sport in August after the first 50+ miles my one buddy looked at me and said how the hell did you do all those miles and not lay your bike down once! I said due this bike handles awesome!!!

Yes kouba states the possibility of the 1.5 rubbing. Eddy posted earlier in the thread he had no problems. Would not doubt that each of our hand built bikes are just a little bit different.

So Jimmy when you get a chance put the icing on this thread with a pic of you geared up, on your bike, with feet touching!
