  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Gearbox oil for Husky WR360 ?

EURO1215

Husqvarna
A Class
Hello, i recently rebuilded my WR 360, and now iam searching for an bottom engine/gearbox oil and iam between those two : 10W-40 (as in manual ?) and 80W-90, i have this one in garage but not sure which would be better for the bike. Thanks

you need to use an oil that is rated jaso-ma. that means its wet clutch compatible. personally, i use amsoil 10w30 motorcycle oil or rotella white or blue jug diesel oil. these are rated jaso-ma

Thank you all ! getting 80w90 , not sure about the mark because we have them very different where i live.

What does a 4T Husky run in its gearbox and why do you think it would be any different.

Most Husky 4T share gearbox and motor oil. It circulates through the entire engine.

Most people use good quality motor oil in their 4T Husky's.

80/90 will be too heavy to be honest.

His bike is a 2T WR360.

80/90 mineral gear oil
Kinematic viscosity at 104°F (40°C) 139-cSt
Kinematic viscosity at 212°F (100°C) 15-cSt

Non synthetic Type F transmission fluid
Viscosity, cSt @ 40°C 39.5
Viscosity, cSt @ 100°C 7.5

Mobil 1 0W-40 synthetic oil
cSt @ 40ºC 75
cSt @ 100ºC 13.5

Might drag a little. I'd say hard to start in gear at least.

Fully aware that it was a WR360

Just drawing comparison.

Used Penrite 5/40 in my 92 360 without issues.

so question
besides everyones personal bias, what oils for old school 2stroke gearboxes are truly worldwide
i have used Torco, BelRay and a few others over the years but seem to be US product
i have seen oils listed that i have never heard of
i use Shell Rotella in my diesel pickup (ute to the down-unders)
never tried ATF type F, but had 2 friends that did with no issues
been using the all synthetic stuff myself as just the gaskets to pull my engine down on a simple 2 stroke cost more than 8 oil changes
i replace my all synthetic gearbox oil annually as it seems fine when i do drain it, so 8 years (for me)
what i was getting at is how little the cost of the oil is compared to hard parts
back to my original question, which specifically made oils for the 2 stroke gearbox are common worldwide

Rockoil is what i use
Putoline
Shell
Maxima
Silkoline
Castrol ( not sure on spelling)
These are main brands in uk missed a load im sure but think they may be big enough to be world wide

it seems 2premo has a point, each country has a batch of oils. im sure some are rebranded and called something different elsewhere.

Hello ! got her running today. i used 80W90 thats been laying in garage to clean the engine. now iam gonna put it out and gonna use one from starline, can i use this one ?

pretty damn thick oil as been said, no one here runs that thick of oil. try it if you want. if an oil doesnt have a jaso-ma rating, it may make your clutches slip. there are oils that dont have that rating that work, its a gamble if you picked one of those.

Gear oil is rated differently than motor oil and 80w90 gear oil is about the same as 10w40 motor oil and you will be fine. I use cheap ATF and have no issues. I think you could put about any oil in a 2 stroke transmission and be fine.

I ran atf in my kx250 with no issues but have switched to cheapo rotella 15w-40 in my 360. My only concern about atf was that if a crank seal went it could dissolve the oil that lubes the crank and bearings and cause a seizure.

Rotella is cheap and works fine
