  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I think I have finally got my TE310 the way I want it. I have the following on the bike.

(HDB) Highway dirtbike handguards and top mount.
BRP submount w/ scotts damper
Garmin Gps62s
Uptite skid plate and muffler guard
Tourtech rear fender rack
ASV levers
Husky frame guards and 46tooth main gear
FMF q4 muffler. I didn't notice much differerence between stock and this muffler other than the tone was a bit easier on the ears.

I cut part of the seat foam out and re layered it with the soft foam seat I had purchased from "Guts Racing". The soft foam was too soft so I cut part of the hard foam out of the stock seat and glued in the upper part of the guts foam. Worked out well.

The HDB mirrors work pretty good. With the husky though they vibrate more. So what I did was put some rubber electrical grommets between the mirrors and handguards. This works pretty well to dampen a lot of vibration out.

The HDB top mount here is actually an old style I guess. I saw a picture of it online someplace but not shown on there web site. I had to ask for it. I think it looks better. Not so "heavy" and bulky.

The HDB guards are strong. Much stronger than the cyra's I've used in the past.

This is the edge where I cut off the lower portion of the L/P plastic. I used some 1/8 aluminum strips to build a foundation for the plate. While strong, I'm not quite sure what will happen to the fender when it falls and hits something.

Is the rear rack supported by the subframe?
I have Dirt-Bike rear fender bag that is heavy with tools and I'm afraid it will destroy the plastic fender like it did on my KTM. I had to buy a PMB rear rack which bolts to the sub frame.
Can you provide a close up photo of the skid plate at the stator cover. I put a hole in my stator cover from a kicked up rock and I have the Uptite skid plate. Mine lacks coverage in the area of the stator.

Thanx,
Roger

This rack is only mounted to the rear fender. It allows me to mount this bag as well as 2 msr fuel bottles.

How did you go with the Steering damper, as i fitted the same to my 310 on it hits on the tank a little bit, not sure wether to leave it how it is or shave some of the tank to make it fit better?

Any ideas ?

I have the HDB hand guards as well and like you said they vibrate almost to the point of being useless at times. I have mine on a SM510R supermoto bike and while tucked in alot of the time when I'm being legal I would like to see out of them better. What I'm wondering is what did you use as far as size and thickness of rubber grommet did tyou use and how well did that help seeing out of them

I don't remember mine steam hitting the tank but it is close as you can see.

As for the grommet, it is a medium electrical grommet about 1/2" to 3/4". Big enough that the bubble on the back of the mirror sits in it a little. I would think anything rubber trapped behind the mirror would work better than nothing. The key is not to tight so it will dampen.

Doug nice job on the bike. We still need to get together and ride. I am loving the 310. No 450 but it is nice.

Thinking of doing the HDB handguards as well. How hard ( or not ) was the install? Curious what tires you are running. My 2011 TE 250 has the stock Karoos which are close to done.

Please note that Doug has also replaced his lower bar clamps with aftermarket ones -ones that fit the HDB top clamp "plate" bolt spacing. When I measured my 2011 TE310 bar clamp bolt spacing, it did not conform to any HDB plate spacing patterns. YMMV.

The HDB handguards are not that bad to install. As Aaron8 stated you have to buy a new bottom clamp to match the HDB top clamp. I have them on a few bikes on one I needed to bend the handguards to make it work but the others were a direct fit. You also need to thread the handle bars which did not turn out to be that difficult if you take your time. I always have a problem with the aligning the mirrors to to the right spot - not sure why but right mirror always seems to be to low on all 3 bikes i have. Few pic's below.

I find the hwdb guards ar really tough and I like the alot. I do find the mirrors a bit small but do-able. If I rode the roads more than a little I might not want to keep them. I have seen the mirrors that on on on the ram mounts and the seem to work well as well as have a good view to them.

As for adjusting these mirrors I found that if you rotate the guards down some, the mirrors will rotate up more. Also since I put the rubber grommets behind the mirrors that this will space them out a little which not only dampens the vibes but allows the to rotate more as well.

I liked having the tall lower bar clamps not only to use the Scott's but I find I don't fell like I'm hanging over the bars as much.
