  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Finally got to ride my TE449 2013

A Class
I finally got to ride it :) around 30 mile trip

First thoughts, and my other bike is a Triumph STR

1/ Very Very different.
2/ It is tall, me being only 5' 7" more like 6" :( I have had it lowered and it is not so bad as I thought it be, controlling at slow speed a lot easier than I thought it would be for me.
3/ It feels slow to the point I thought the Speedo is 10% out, but at the same time I felt I was keeping up with cars and no one was really following me. I checked it with an iphone APP. I am pretty sure my speedo max speed was 65 at any one time, the Iphone app over a 12 (varied speed ride) mile period recorded a max speed of 65.8 Mph I was quite surprised.
4/ The OEM tyres not really suitable for the road, I can see why people are reporting wheel wobble at high speeds, although I was very cautious cornering, (roads wet too) even in a straight line it is something I would not want to ride around on a daily basis at high speeds for long.
5/ Love the ride, So high, and smooth over the bumps considering the tyres,
6/ I smiled a lot.
7/ Seat not as bad as I thought it would be, if rode a long way on the road sensing a numb bum.
8/ Engine sounds good as well
9/ Light is an understatement
10/ Was expecting the brakes to be worse than they were, after reading a few reports, though I am between 10 / 11 Stone
11/ Only costing a tenner (£) to fill it up (
12/ Did I say I smiled a lot :)

Little things I will miss, or poor points for a new bike, & things gonna have to live with.

1/ No Rev Counter
2/ Quite surprised no ignition key, anyone can jump on and start her up and ride off. Although the Dealer can fit one for not to much money. Still thought it would be fitted as standard tbh.
3/ Vibration not to bad through the handle bars, although can imagine if you were wearing summer gloves it will be annoying, I will fit the grip puppies think they will improve it, grips are quite small.
4/ It is all ready dirty :(

Cant comment to much on the engine and pull, It is very stiff for sure, but I am sure it will pull well, and go well, but I am gong to try and give it some easy run in period for a little while.

I cannot wait to get the 17" rims on it with road tyres, (Michelin Power) and then get it run in and swap back tyres for some off road fun.

As long as it is reliable, worth every penny.

My 2011 TE449 tops out at 140 km/h which is about 86 m/h.

Is your bike fully de restricted and powered up? Do you still have the massive stock silencer on the bike? as its quite restrictive.

Congrats!! Very nice the more you get to know it and dial it in for you...the more you will love it...at least thats my story with my Husky:)

I have no idea. will post some images later.but I did not order anything else when buying it, except wheels related.

Cheers to you and your 449!

Yep, you've got a winner. I can proudly claim that my 449 is totally stock engine-wise and it still rips. I have only installed the jumper to run map II, and switched to synthetic oil.

These engines need at least 500 mi on them before they are getting broken in. From 500-700 mine really woke up.

Yes even with the Fiat car muffler, I can still pull long power wheelies in tacky conditions and deep sand is also no problemo.

Give her some time and you'll be amazed how well it does.

I may be the only guy here that won't tell to run out and buy an aftermarket pipe and a FI tuner. Do make sure you activate Map II if you can.

Congrats on the new bike! The 449's are very reliable and their engines will last a long time with the proper oil changed often. They do have a few quirks, but the members here will help you get them ironed out. The ignition key is easy to put in, there is a thread on here to help you. Vibration is definitely increased on this bike, but there are work arounds for that too. Power on a stock TE449 is pretty weak, typically 36HP dyno'd, but can be increased with a couple simple additions.

Did another 60 miles this morning, I find it pulls pretty well, in general quite impressed with its performance so far, and still not really revved it, I am sure the map 2 is active as that is what it says in the LCD.
I fitted the grip puppies this morning, has helped a little on the vibration via handle bars, I think some of the vibrations are also tyre related.
More used to the tyres on tarmac as well odd, feel more stable this morning, though roads were dry.

I am a little concerned though having it lowered all ready, and when I swap to 17" rims and road tyres, wondering if the Side Stand will be too long, and the bike not lean over enough on the stand (bike be too upright), Thoughts please?

Does anyone run Super Unleaded? 97 /99 Octane petrol? I do in my STR, find gives better fuel consumption, and helps the engine?

Congratulations. You haven't made it clear what you bought it for? Off road, or supermoto, your fitting sm wheels and tyres, I assume both or you'd bought the smr?

Everything, I want to ride it on the road, especially in the winter, some off roading/ greenlaning, and want to try a some track days. I do believe the wheels are off an SMR

how do you reduce the vibration ?

In yankee land we call that race gas. Best we can get is 92-93 octane.

Euro / UK "Super Unleaded" at 97-99 Octane is similar to North American "Super Unleaded" at 92-95 Octane due to the differences in the octane rating measurement methods (RON in the UK and AKI in North America).

Ahh, I forgot about different rating methods. I was getting jealous. Then again, for what they charge on your side o'the pond it should be better!

I always run supreme. I have run some mid grade (89) without any bad results. More octane is always better, especially when hot outside. It prevents pre-detonation.

I don't know how to post here. I bought a new te511 yesterday. i had dealer put on a power core 4 slip on........and it runs like crap. dealer said give it time and the computer will learn the new pipe........im skeptical...........now i have a brand new bike that don't run********************************************************************************!!! what should I do now???????pay 400 bucks for a power commander?????????take the fmf off and put the stock pipe back on????? im confused .....I bought a new bike and I want it to run........it does start up , but it wants to die out.......maybe I put fmf on too soon?????????before even braking in bike?

Finally got the 17" rims and tyres on it, got to say it was a long haul with loads of grief for something that should have been really easy :( had a good ride, all seems good :)
