Don't focus on scale weight...get hydrostatic "dunk tested" which will show you your lean mass. No man should ever "diet" through caloric restriction. I eat 3500 calories a day and am currently 13% body fat.
Good luck.
nope nope nope...this does nothing to increase metabolic mass...you diet like a woman and end up looking like a runway model.
Most of what you posted is great stuff, here's some add on:
My blog on my TE450 includes "cheap tricks". Here's a cheap trick (no cost, if you don't wanna mess with dunk testing) for measuring body fat: I used a 12" crescent, on 4 parts of my body:thigh, tricep, suprailiac, and belly. Crank it down until it's tight, but it will still pull off. Do it the same way and the same places every week. I measured once a week, and over the course of 4 months, my belly measurement went from 26 mm to 12 mm. When my belly fat was at 12mm, the vein in my bicep was visible. I used a web based calculator to determine I was running about 11% then, I was 165 lbs. Now I am at 175 lbs, the vein in my biceps not visible and my belly fat measurement is about 18mm, so right now I am at about 16% body fat.
At least for me, I HAD/HAVE TO to restrict calories. I can gain weight on 2500 calories a day. If I ate 3500 cals a day, I'd either weigh 250 lbs, or I'd be exercising 8 hours a day every day.
Right now, I need to drop 5 lbs and I brisk-walk 4 miles every day, I do some weights and crunches and other floor exercises for 30 mins a day. If I want to lose the 5 lbs, I have to hold my cals a day to 2000 or I wont drop the 5 lbs.
I guess I diet like a runway model, but my wife is not complaining that I look like a girl.

I guess what I'm saying is that, if there are guys like me reading this, that can't spend any more time exercising than they already do, they, like I, will HAVE TO cut their caloric intake. Not everyone can eat 3500 cals a day and lose weight.
Here's a pic of a free app that charts your progress on the 4 skin fold measurements, first one from when I was at about 205 lbs and then my goal of 165 lbs is the second one.
