• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

EarthX Install and Review

You may also need to open up the terminals some as the Earth X bolts are slightly larger. I added the pad under the battery to bring it closer to stock battery height and just slightly rerouted the cables. I also put a pad on the retainer strap.

Yeah, looks like I need a 1/4 inch bit to chew through the connectors. EarthX said they have 5mm bolts as well, but don't feel like waiting on them.

Has anyone needed to charge their EarthX yet?

Mine has been sitting in the bike new for a week or more. (Since arriving from Zipty Racing )

Wondering if I should charge it some before the first use.

Not me.... That is not much time at all. Both my bikes have sat for a month or two and both started right up and the batteries are 2 years old. Impressed with their stability to date.

Good to hear!

EarthX is in!

Leaned the bike over to burp the coolant system and replace the factory cap with the CV4

Almost threw the bike over the other way due to the weight differential of the EarthX :D

Wow, the starter definitely spun faster!

If you let the earth-x sit too long, there is a protection circuit that shuts the battery down so it doesn't totally discharge. It will appear dead when you try to start the bike - no click. When you put "most" battery chargers on the "protected" earth-x, it will not start to charge. The new generation chargers need to find "some" charge on the battery to start the charge process. If in the "protected" mode, you must put another battery into the charging circuit to prime the charger. Once the new generation chargers see a small charge, they start their charging cycle and all is good. The earth-x will come out of "protected" mode, and start your bike. This has happened over the winter with both our 511 and 310.
