• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

EarthX Install and Review

This is indeed useful. I just checked the specs on my Battery Tender Jr.and it does indeed have desulphation. Looks like I'll be going with the Wallyworld or B&D route when I get my Earthx.

I just downloaded the pdf from their site. Go to their product page, click on the charger you own, then click on the help documentation page. Here's the page for mine as an example...

It does not state it has a desulphation mode, just that it alerts to a sulphated battery or a bad connection. Not sure how to interpret that
Guess my BT jr will stay dedicated to my Audi and get the cheapo no limited brain function model for the two EarthX I have.

Superb answer. Thanks for that! I live only 100 miles from CTeks head office and development. Been there and those guys are VERY thorough. I still have an old charger of theirs that does not have the desulphating mode. Guess I will keep that one just in case I get an EarthX battery. =) Thanks for sharing!

Ahh, I misread the pdf. It says the best way to eliminate sulphation is to prevent it. Then it says it doesn't lead to sulphation like other chargers. Well cool, cause I've got 2 of them.

I went through 3 turn techs and they kept failing. I said never again on the lightweight batteries. Now I have a earth-x in my 511 with no kick start. So far so good. Tinken better be right :D

That sounds like my Ballistic EVO2 lithium history(nightmare). Swore I'd never go lithium again. May consider EarthX once I see them consistently last more than 2 years. Dropping weight up high is instantly noticeable, at least to me it is.

The weather is colder in Mammoth right now and the Beta Is not starting on the same routine, choke on and 4-5 twists before button pushing. EarthX is doing fine with the extended starting efforts. Sea level starts in warmer weather are just 2-3 twists.

I must have a good one!

It's over 4 yrs old and I never charge it and the bike sits for months at a time in the winter.

Go figure!

Buddy Jake has one of the earlier ones that is just shrink wrapped. No issues. Mine is the newer one with the plastic case and the negative terminals come loose. Known issue.

At my last race the thing really shined for me. Lots of bottlenecks with carnage piling up and a few stalls on my part running hot and picking through rocks and other riders. Probably stopped and started the engine 20 times. In most cases to save gas as it was a 40 mile loop before the pits and the Earth X never missed a beat, never had a compression stroke battery killing dash reset, and didn't have to worry about getting going again.

Received the Earthx today from ZipTy! Thanks for the quick turn around on the order! So, looks like I need the extenders to hook up the battery? Man, things were starting to come back together fast, knew there'd be a wrench somewhere down the line. Hah.
