• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

clutch dragging and adjustment help

it was fine all day then started to slip at take off / the start but it was pretty much unusable tried backing off the rod well checking it . i think its nearly worn out ans the soapy diesel oil isnt was the final straw . interesting it lasted like 5 races before that . i guess that was only really 10 aplications of the clutch tho .so it could have taken that long for the oil to soak into the friction disks

i have been using rotella diesel oil but its also jaso rated and is known to be great with clutches and shifting. my local napa has been out of amsoil. not sure about the stuff you tried..in my experience when there is an oil slipping problem it happens pretty much as soon as you put it in. im not thinking it would been fine all day then started slipping just from oil.

I adjusted the set screw and hex loc nut on the clutch push rod that goes through the tranny/clutch shaft till it's about 1/16" to 3/32" of free play. At the clutch lever on the block if the cam isn't worn its between 1/4" to 5/16" movement on the lever.

Don't make the setting on the set screw at zero play because this shaft does grow a tad longer as it gets hot.

This is a good upgrade for all of the primary kick engine bikes for all years. I have made the pushrod at 8.6mm diameter too, so they dont flop sideways when the cam moves it - but still loose enough to operate and get oiled. Re - assemble the clutch and adjust the arm to give 8mm of play. Fit the cable and with luck the adjuster at the bars will be mid-range. Oh, yes - be absolutely sure to use a Magura clutch lever. The mechanical advantage of the modern levers is not the same as a magura!

Hope this helps!

Will this upgrade work on a 79 250 OR? New style shaft and bearing? I have my engine apart now and noticed the declutching shaft has the worn dimple. I would love to smooth out the clutch feel.
Thanks
Marc
