  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Case Cracked from Kickstarting...

Anyone have some tips on removing the bolt that goes through the swingarm and case? I can't get it out for the life of me.......its the only thing holding me back from getting the motor pulled.

I saw a nightmarish article on someone trying to do the same. Can't remember if it was here or on TT, but it was unbelievable. Even had the frame in a large press that couldn't do it.

They ended up sending it to this guy that I believe heated and cooled it over about 2 days before he finally got it out. He mentioned it could take up to a week.

Hopefully yours isn't that extreme. I was pretty lucky with mine a couple of months ago.\

Found the thread, here: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/stuck-swingarm-pivot-on-te250.15466/

I got everything apart finally and even with the one case I just can't afford to fix it right now i'm going to have to part it out..........desmo ill send your case back I really appreciate the help you provided. This summer is a wash for riding :( Updating my for sale add as a part out........

dammit dude try and have a good summer anyway!

I just had the same issue with my case cracking in the same spot just yesterday. Except mine only cracked the outside cover. Talked to George at up-tight husy in Cali and he actually sent me one out the same day. Cost me $416 shipped but I needed it ASAP

So does anyone else think that this is totally rediculous? If a bike can't hold up to being STARTED!!! than what good is it? Just today I went to kick my buddies '06 TE 450 and on the first kick it fired made a CLUNK noise and broke the case just the same as the one in the picture. We are considering a different route though...

Why not weld the cases??? The only thing affected by the break is the kick starter shaft. That shaft will only rotate on the order of thousands of times in the remaining life of the engine right (not like a main bearing were rotations are thousands per minute). All the repair needs to do is hold oil and give the kick starter something to found on. Who cares if the machined surfaces are out of tolerance, maybe the starter shaft will have some play by the time the motor is dead. Let me know what you guys think but we are going forward with it and will post how we do.

Not a bad idea...it should work fine!

Do the newer bikes like the TE510 have this problem as well?
YES!!! 2005 TE510 .... :( :(

Now looking for a spare case. I can try to have it welded up, but who knows. It split top to bottom, I hope not the inside RH case too..

To me that looks like an engine to frame alignment issue where the frame is putting far too much stress on the rear half of the cases. Have you inspected the frame for bending or cracks? Do the engine mount holes all line up perfectly? If you look at the cracks with a magnifying glass you can often tell that the crack has existed for some time before it finally broke. Cam.

My 010 TC250 kicked back so hard I was afraid that was gonna happen to it ... Instead, I just got a twisted off kicker shaft from someone who over-kicked it ... 2 out of 3 of my bikes are busted and no real solution for any of them other than try this ..try this.. try this ... My Husky bubble is popped ... I'm slowly moving away from these bikes unless a Xmas miracle happens ... I'm disappointed beyond belief here ... Who would have thought a 2t WR250 machine would go belly up? lol Certainly not me ...

The 010 Bikes had a shaft with a M8 thread and most / all broke. The newer bikes and shafts have a M6 thread and are fine !

Your new shaft will come with a M6 thread .

Yep and for some reason, these bikes seem to get stuck hard at TDC or somewhere in the stroke ... You force the machine to kick over when it is 'locked' at that position and the shaft just might break ...

I've got some parts coming for this bike ( cam and CDI) that I'm hoping helps with the starting ...

PS -- It seems really important to have a smooth easy push down on the kicker to get mine to start ... Or at least the guys who crank mine the easiest had a good slow push-through kick when starting the bike from ~TDC ...
