  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st Carb Vent Hose Re-route--Thoughts?

cparker

Husqvarna
A Class
I have an 09 wr 250, during last race with stock Mikuni carb I managed to get water in the carb which caused me fits throughout most of the race, ultimately causing me to have to pull off and drain the carb completely on last lap.

Course was great but there were several deep water crossings (knee deep). My guess is I sucked water into the carb via one of the vent hoses. What has anyone done to prevent this? Was it simply rider error or do some of you reroute certain carb hoses as a precaution? If you do reroute, which hoses get the reroute and where to you run them?

*Note: I just swapped the stock Mikuni for a Keihin from Motorsportz last night, if there are tips for preventing a similar problem I would appreciate the input.

I don't know if you also found this a problem, but I have also had water in my gearbox after deep crossings. I guess it gets drawn up through the vent hose as well. Probably worth re-routing carb and gearbox vents.

You want to run the top 2 vent hoses into your airbox.

Ditto.

I run mine up and under the gas tank. I don't like all of the filter oil gathering on the hoses and attracting dirt. Just my .02

I have had the same thing happen on my GasGas. I think when the hot gearbox hits the cool water it rapidly cools the gearbox and sucks the water up the vent hose like a drinking straw.

Ditto that one, too.
I use the Pro Circuit vent can on all my bikes. This is how I had it mounted on my WR250.

+1 i really like the looks of that set up!

so you have the top two hoses from the carb routed up and into the canister? Did you also send the gearbox vent there?

you dont happen to have a link to that vent can do you?

thanks!

-edit-

is this the product you used?

there is not much explanation on the procircuit site, does it simply let air in and keep out water/dust/dirt?

Yeah, that's the item I use. It has some foam inside to filter out dirt and can be mounted in a number of places. Basically, you just take the top vent hoses from the carb off to the can.
Here's a veiw from the other side.

I did not run the crank case vent up. I run it and the other three carb hoses down like normal. The other three carb hoses have to be able to drain or you'll have other problems.
Here's a pic of a "works" WR300. You can just see how the top two hoses are ran to the airbox. This is pretty much "normal" factory set up.

7602 Racing has a nice filter unit that allows you filter all the hoses into one filter.

I really like a big hearted guy like you that's always thinking of his brother and never puts himself first. Someday you'll be rewarded, I'm sure of it.

hmmm...CF tank with red ano screws placed back in the holes post shroud removal...way to rub it in.

bike porn!
