  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

brand new TE310R 2014 or TE449 2011 ???

Hi guys.
Need your advice.
Dealer offer brand new TE310R 2014 model for 9.200AUD and brand new TE449 2011 model for 8.000AUD.This is my first bike after long time...I am 1,82m. tall and 82kg.Think more and more about 449...)))
What is different between 2011 TE449 and 2013TE449???
Thank you for any recomendations.

I tend to like the seemly more reliable 449 over the 310 as well. If I was racing a lot I might go 310 but for everything else I prefer the 449.

It depends on what type of riding you do.
I prefer tighter and more technical single track with hill climbs and mud. I found my 2011 TE449 was too tall any heavy for this.
I now have a 2014 TE310R and I am heaps quicker in the bush on it. I find the handling is better and when riding it feels way lighter than a set of scales would suggest.
However, the tight ratio gear box is not great for real open riding - fast fire trails or the road. With 13/50 gearing 85 kmh is comfortable and doesn't feel as if the engine is straining or working too hard. The 310 is a 250 on steroids and my personal belief is that Husky should have used a wider ratio gearbox as it has the grunt to pull it. I am regularly looking for 7th gear.
I had a close look at a Beta 350/400RR and so nearly pulled the trigger - The gearbox ratio are much better.

Bear in mind that the 12/13 449's are about 15mm lower than the 11's ..... This is quite a bit. If you get a 449 you will most likely need to get map 3 flashed to the ECU (Tinken) or get a Power Commander. I really struggled with flame outs until I got the pc5.

I am 180 cm, 78 kg, mid 40's, have been riding all of my life, ride competitive trials but have only got back into trail riding in the last couple of years. I don't consider myself a gun rider by any stretch, but rarely get left behind with the groups I ride with.

Cheers
Ian

I was in your same situation , I was on my way to pick up a KTM 500 exc in thousand oaks , I stopped by Malcolm Smith and they had a 12 310 and 449 on closeout , was a hard choice , I have a blast on my 310 I gotta say , if your gonna do alot of street ridding I would look into the 449 , but in the dirt I love this 310.

Where are you located? I only ask because if you're in. CO you can rent them.

I would choose 449/511 over the 310 for most anything. The torque helps a ton and I love the feel of the bike. It's more spread out. The 310 really feels quite a bit lighter but the 449 still handles really well. The 310 is cool because you feel like you can do anything on it but I only think it's a fun bike if you're trying to go as fast as you can. The 449 is fun no matter what :)

I have a 2013 TXC 310 and a 2011 TXC 449. Both are stock except for LTR suspension tuning and the air box mod I did to the 449. Both are fantastic machines and it is really to bad they are going away.
We have two distinct riding seasons. Winter riding is tight single track with very little elevation changes. I purchased the 310 for this venue fiquring that the lighter snappier bike would be easier to ride. The 449 was for the summer season where there is lots of steep mountain climbs and short range dual sporting.
This winter I have been switching bikes just about every weekend and I must say the 449 has stolen my heart. The bike is very impressive. What ever weight diff a rider may feel. The smooth easy to use motor and the tractability of the CTS make up for any advantage the 310 may have.
I have sampled all the versions of the 449/511 models and I like the TXC 449 the best. If you are mainly riding off road. I would recommend finding a TC 449. If your going to do some medium range dual sporting get the TE 449. After my experience with both there was really no need to get the 310.
Last weekend a friend who had a set of Husky hard parts triple clamps on his now sold 511 let me try them on my 449. We set them on the 15mm off set. The bike went from very good to great in the tight single track and it was still very stable hammering through the whoops

Wow, having ridden both your 449 and 310 I'm slightly surprised to hear you say this. The 449/511 is a great platform many of us really like. But when I rode your 310 I thought it was pretty amazing too. Thanks for the insight. My 511 has already stayed around longer than most bikes do for me and I don't see it going anywhere. In fact like i said would love to get a TC449 some day.

Sit on them both see which one feels best to you , everyone is gonna defend their bike , If ur planning on just street riding I recommend a Harley.
