• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Beta, Beta, and more Beta!

If your refering to the pic I posted, yes, its an MT-16. Whats interesting though is the bike is so smooth that anything seems to work pretty well once you ditch the stock FIM tire. I'm all ears for a good sticky front tire if you find something better than my default M59.

Have you tried the new AT81 front? Ive heard some good things about it. I want to try one.

Glenn, fwiw, trail rider magazine just tested the new Dunlop geomax 81tires and said they work well in your neck of the woods.

M59 is a great tire IMHO for what I do. I like the Motoz Terrapactor front better. Both those are top choices for me.

For the rocks, roots, and more technical trail stuff like your PNW conditions its great. For some of the faster HS courses, especially loose flatter turns over hardpack, I'd like a little more bite. I think the fork is a little light on rebound valving though, which I will correct ASAP, so this may have a lot to do with it. That said, the Pirelli XCMS I had on before didn't care as much. That AT81 is supposed to be a stiff sidewall/soft crown tire, should work good Tubliss which is all I run.

FWIW to Husky guys considering Beta, your wheels(right side drive) will fit. I bought a set off a member here and had custom stainless sleeved spacers made.

Are you referring to wr250-300 wheels? I tried my 125-x-lite wheels and they don't fit, axle is way to big.

Thats funny, wheels I have are supposed to be from a WR125. Axel is 20mm, you need custom spacers or the Beta spacers/seals with a 1.5mm washer on the sprocket side. My brother has a TXC310 XLite, will compare ASAP.

Not familiar with Husky axel/spacers, but the Beta spacers as well as my specials have a 25mm OD that fits in the ID of the bearing to the shoulder, like a KTM or GG spacer. Does a Husky axel ride directly in the bearing ID? If so there is your answer. The older wheels supposodly have something on the brake side of the hub that does not fit. Hammer can tell you exactly, he did it first and sold me my set.

Yep, husky axle rides on the inner race.

The wheels GMP has are off a 09 125. The Beta axle must be used. You can use the Beta factory spacers and seals in the Husky wheels with a washer or make up some spacers to use with the Husky seals all very easy stuff. I have even had my Husky SM wheels on the Beta.

The axle is a lot smaller on the Beta but the stepped axle spacer (like KTM) makes them work.

Like Hammer said, very easy. If you look at the Husky hubs compared to those on the Beta, they look the same with the exception of some secondary machining on the Beta parts.

Seems Beta borrowed a lot from KTM and a little from husky.

They mfg a lot of stuff for KTM. I also tend to think that they may have designed some as well. Seems like the relationship would not be so cozy if there was blatant piracy of some of the designs. Stuff like wheels are just off the shelf componentry. Probably easier to use the same foundry in Italy that cast the Husky hubs.
