• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

No way. ive invited you to baja AT LEAST 8 times.

YOU WONT GO!!

(gloves off, thrown in the sand, triple reverse psychology) :busted:

I heard tale those NW riders melt in direct sunlight and can't navigate with out dodging trees.

I am making a parts list and prepping bike..oops..maybe calling Kelly soon.:D

Kelly- disregard previous comment...all NW riders except YOU melt in direct sunlight. Waiting to see about the tree part :busted:

I am a parts order and some paperwork away from a solid YES!

A bar in San Felipe sells Mexican micro-brews, if that helps ya NW guys.

You don't want to go, during the whole trek the closest thing to vegetation you are going to see is some sage (pucker bushes) and a couple of roots in the road from an old mesquite tree.:D

I guess I better not talk to much smack since I haven't fully committed yet.:bonk:

Not to mention Al's Bar and his famous sipping Tequila! All my friends love it and make me get a few bottles for them when I go down there.

Travel takes money away from riding... :busted:

This trip would make less sense with gas at $4.50 a gallon.

Later,

With gas at $4.50 a gallon i probably wouldnt even plan this trip-those days SUCKED.

BUT-- gas in my area is now $1.65 and going down.

Most forecasts say OPEC will limit production in a couple weeks for a target of $75 a barrel. Ive read some analysts who say that will take months to accomplish, and probably multiple production cuts. The fuel being sold right now is for Febuary delivery.

So we are safe. Gas will be cheap still for this trip, same price as now or probably a bit less.

I agree it will go up again in the summer, eventually to around $2.50 to $3.00 a gallon. BUT the economies of Venezuela and Iran and Russia are so leveraged on high oil income, that these guys might not be able to hold back production cuts--so maybe gas wont go up that much, even with OPEC production cuts. Russia is not part of OPEC, but they announced yesterday they would work with OPEC cuts....so who knows.

I just write all this to say its extremely certain (of course Israel might bomb Iran, etc.) that fuel will be cheap in Febuary, and so its safe to plan a long drive.

That said we should think about carpooling as much as possible. Even flying. If you NW guys want to drop the bikes here in Norcal a week before the ride, we can pick you up at Ontario airport along the way. Mexicali airport too for that matter.

Just some ideas for you potential long haulers.

Drop them off in Norcal...where and how would they get the rest of the way? I'm open to all avenues! I've been curious as to how everyone in the PNW wants to do this.

There are a few of us leaving from the Bay area headed down.
How they are to get to the Bay area from up North? Don't know that part but there's help from the Bay area South. Either caravan or haul.

I'll go so far as to throw in a staging area right off 101 South in Santa Rosa, CA..plenty of parking and WAY off the street.

Does that mean that you are now a committed rider?

Mike, do you have a phone number for the Hotel Cortez that I can put on my "permission slip"? For admin purposes. Thx

I've been avoiding reading this thread cuz i knew it would sound like too much fun. Sounds like a blast,... again. Wish i could make it. would be awesome to meet you guys.

Yes definetly, when we were out at Cuddleback I didn't even think to put any on and my poor bald head got so burned that it blistered. You sometimes don't realize how much time you spend in the sun.
Good advice George.
