• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Baja husky ride!

Location:
The start is 127 miles south of the border in San Felipe. Its a good paved road. Its 5 hours from Georges shop in Santa Ana.

Might want to put that in the first post of the thread
Time / distances: (yahoo maps & your info)
5 hours / ___ miles from Georges palace to staging area
6 hours / 400 miles from SF bay area to Georges palace
14 hours / 900 miles from Bellingham WA to SF bay area - weird cause I always make it in 12 hours.

So the British Colombia / Kamloops people are maybe 24 hours from the staging area. For you Canadian people - if you drive the speed limit on I-5 you will get people frustrated with you - people drive fast.

People coming through the area could stage at MLs or my house which is closer to I-5. Feel free to spend the night at my house.

Just looked at the looong range weather forcast for the trip. 85 deg day temp, 75 nite, clear skies, sunny ( bring sun screen) no snow, no ice.. Your call! Later George

Sounds good. I've got a ton of stuff going on, but if it is possible, may I come?

It is entirely possible my body might not be up for this no matter how slow or easy going, any interest in maybe switching off with a chase truck driver? Maybe one of the chase truck drivers might like to ride for a bit but not the whole trip... or maybe there is a shortage of Husqvarna bikes.

Dean:
I still have a few details to work out before I can say that I am a postive go but if I do go I bet we can get you as much or as little ride time in as you like.

Not to mention Al's Bar and his famous sipping Tequila! All my friends love it and make me get a few bottles for them when I go down there.

Gracias. I was looking at the San Felipe over by Ensenada for some reason. This makes much more sense:D I don't suppose I should plan on using my beloved MT43 on the back for this trip, should I? May have to spring for one of Kelly's new meats. Hmmmmm.

Trials tires are good for single track. Not good for highspeed baja. They dont have the carcass to withstand the abuse.

Ive seen a rock go thru a trials tire.

Any dual sport or desert tire will do.
I find the MotoZ brand of tires the best for baja in many ways.

Travel takes money away from riding... :busted:

This trip would make less sense with gas at $4.50 a gallon.

Later,

$4.50/Gallon..Hmm we could only wish for that, we're just coming down from $1.50/lTR...eg..$6.00/gallon, same time our $'s were close to even! Good thing its goten to .95c,/ltr, still close to $4/gallon. sucks!

Sorry, did I mention it hurts reading stuff like this? So far away, sounds just the Plum too! damn ocean...too fricken deep to ride across!!!

Night ride!?

Or maybe just sit and have a couple cold ones after dinner and then call it a night.

Night ride might be be interesting, it would give me an oppotunity to check out the new HID set-up in the desert.

BOB,

I can't find it ANYWHERE since it was discontinued by the manufacturer. The best I could do was buy it for $50 on amazon

Maybe I can borrow it sometime, hopefully before the ride.

Where is there to stay at in Bay of LA on Sat night; or should I plan on passing out on the beach then getting up and riding with the sun?

Also, whats a good source for hard copy maps of the area?

I can't believe what Amazon is asking for the movie! I went to Michael Nesmith's website, in hopes of buying a copy there, but it just directed me to Amazon.

There's a great used book store up the street from me. I found a used TimeRider there when I was off work, I think it was even a DVD and not a tape. I remember it was $14.95 when all the other used films were $9. If they still have it I"ll get it and mail it to you. Of course, you'll have to mail it to the next guy on the Baja list, and so on...

Mike, no one gets over the border without intimate knowledge of Lyle Swan!
