• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Didn't we just discuss this Sunday?

Hell yeah, if we can make it work. We may need a Husky for Shane to ride...

Later,

I bet I can get at least 1 of us down there:busted: I'm really psyched about this and appreciate the early heads up. Helps out with the "paperwork". Chance of a lifetime for me......and others. Would be really great to meet you "southerners" and throw back a few drinks with you. Plus I see I've got a smoking buddy with George if all else fails, lol.

Humidor with Cuban cigars in San Felipe near the start.

Peso is now 13.5 to $1, that means beer is on sale 1/3rd off everywhere in baja!

What type of fees are we looking at for the support and misc. stuff for the ride? Forgive me if that's a noob question. I remember a little bit from you all's last Baja excursion posted on TT. Man, I'm excited about this regardless of the cost. I've enjoyed many a Cuban overseas and this sounds like a great occasion to try more.

I'm curious as to the total cost aside from spending money. I am going to do everything in my power to make it with Greg and Co! Like he said, trip of lifetime. There is likely to be a convoy from the PNW!

More Questions:
So it looks like the border is 2hrs from Georges Shop, Yes?
How much longer till we get to the starting point?
Is it safe to park our trucks at the starting point for the time well be gone?
Do you have any kind of map view of the trip, Google maps don't seem to work so well south of the border.

This thread seems to have some of the info from a previous trip, would you suggest the same list of needs on this trip (IE: drive train parts, tires, etc)?

Costs:
About $150/day or less. That includes lots of money for beer, etc.
We usually ask everyone to pitch in $20 or so for snacks, gas for chase truck, water, etc.

Location:
The start is 127 miles south of the border in San Felipe. Its a good paved road. Its 5 hours from Georges shop in Santa Ana.

keep those questions coming. I put some info back on the first post.

SWEET! I will stay out of the way of backing blue haired ladies and will definitely be in on this ride. COOLIO!

Ill try to make it. The last one was just so much fun! I'll see if my dad is interested in joining us again to chase (He is ALWAYS willing to drive down to SF).

I'll send in for my passport this week. If it gets here in time then I'm in.

There is an express passport option. Costs more, takes a week or so.

My wife applied for one early this year and it took 2.5 months to show up.

Augh!!

Please don't tell me that! I wanna go! My passport expired a few years ago but the bigger problem is I lost it afterwards. I'm sure it's in the house here somewhere, or maybe in the basement, but they frown on a "lost" passport and will probably make me jump through a few more flaming hoops of hell because of it.

Keep your fingers crossed!

My father said he would like to come along as part of the chase truck. He could help with the driving and anything else!

Perfect. He can ride along, or do some driving. Much of it is paved for the chase truck, very easy. But there is one 80 mile graded road section.

Get your passports!!
Go to the Post Office, take two pics with ya (get your passport pics at Costco-fast and cheap) 2.5 months...that means you just might get it in time.

The 'fast passport' option is not cheap. Over $100 extra. :excuseme:
But ya get it in 1-2 weeks.
