• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

APT SmartCarb

K and Walt I'm going to pull my SmartCarb off and ship it out to you on Monday. K if you will send me a PM with the address you would like it shipped to that would be great. I don't want Walt to need snow spikes for his test . I have two other bikes to ride so you guys get your selves several good rides in so you can see/feel and report your thoughts on it. I just got in from more "testing" in my woods and back pasture :D. Still .

you rule.

K

Will you be making any of the Billet models in the TMXX dimensions? If not when do you expect to have the die cast models for that application done? Thanks for coming here and talking to us.

The area under the slide is a critical feature of the SmartCarb's performance and requires a slightly longer body, venturi end to end, so not a lot of wiggle room to work with. Our current applications, those designed to replace the Keihin PWK S AG (for which this carb was designed) the extra length has not been a problem performance wise, even with some wrinkling of the snorkel (boot). Some fitment of course is tighter than others. We are working to improve the dimensions of the SmartCarb to more closely match those of conventional carburetors, however, several OEM's have already made concessions to accommodate the SmartCarb's additional length to better fit their applications.

...and I'm sure you like to offer us a group buy at an awesome price :>) I contacted you guys about dealer setups but you do not offer them at this time. Oh, I mean welcome and thanks for the info. :D

Nice to feel welcome:thumbsup: We haven't offered anybody a group buy at an awesome price. But if you want to get in line and order one, or several, using our down payment plan then we would be glad to accept you.

Hi Corey, from the APT site it looks like both the 36mm and 38mm billet straight bore Smart Carbs are out of stock. Any word on when they will be available again? Thanks

The performance of the SmartCarb is heavily dependent on the shape of the venturi and the ability to provide a high signal to the metering rod. The area under the slide is a critical element of the carburetors ability to "read" air density and mass flow and as such this dimension cannot be significantly altered. We are working diligently to make the SmartCarb fit most conventional applications and the die cast versions will be a better fit. The extra length has not been a problem performance wise, even with some wrinkling of the snorkel (boot).

Thanks for taking the time to post the pix. Interesting design. I always thought it would be fun to design a completely externally adjustable carb. It just seems like carb tech has been pretty stagnant for the most part.
No worries. I was looking all over for similar pics myself but never came across any so I thought others might like to see. Some of the pics probably aint the best but it's not on the bike yet so if there is something anyone would like to see in more detail let me know and I'll make it happen

It's funny Blair even with more power every where on my 165 it's actually way more predicitable, smoother, and no hit. Just don't twist the thing on the right more than you need and at and it will be all good. I think :D you will be fine on the big 300 . I can't wait for a big 300 Husky report.

One thing that I'm wondering, with the tubes running from the float bowl to the inlet, if the bike was laid over with a dead motor would it fill the motor and air filter with fuel ?

Like, who's never gone down a on a hill side and had the bike basically upside down for a time with fuel running out the vent hoses ?

The diecast version will have check valves to prevent that from happening,as of right now with the billet version that could happen.

Already did.
