  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any ideas...

Thanks. I'm betting its the resistor, because the picture in the linked thread above shows that it is right where I had to route the wire harness over top of the radiator cross tube when I installed my radiator braces. The harness now gets squished a bit between the radiator and the tank right where the resistor is in the picture. Any problem with just ignoring it or is it something that will cause problems if I don't fix it?

Mine was like that for a while before I fixed it. I doubt that any harm could come from it, other than actually running out of fuel because you didn't have a legitimate warning.

Thanks. Before I once again remove my tank and start slicing into the wiring, when I unclip the fuel sensor connector on the wire that comes from the fuel petcock, the light goes out and stays out. Is this a sign of a bad resistor, or something else?

Hmmm. It sounds like it may not be the resistor. From the other thread I linked to, "to be sure, before you take the harness apart, disconnect the fuel pump connector and turn the switch on.
if the light is still on, the problem is the resistor."

In which case, I'm not sure what the problem would be. Looking at the wiring diagrams for 2012, the low fuel circuit appears to be functionally the same as the 2009 bikes, with the exception that the 2009 bikes used a 110 ohm resistor, while the 2012 use a 68 ohm.

I think I'll just ignore it. Maybe someone will come out with a aftermarket 3 gallon clear tank. I'd trust that more than any electronic gauge.

Figure about 80-85 miles till reserve with another 20 or so till empty. Powered up you may get a little less. Then again that's with a full fill and not heavy duty singletrack, mud, etc... Just jeeps roads and easy trails. Saw translucent tank today and easy to see the fuel level. Not fond of the looks though unless it was done like the mid 70's Ducati SS with a 1-2 inch vetical clear band to sight down the side.
