  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I am and have been trying to find the ring and pinion gears and the shaft the holds them for over a month. Do you know where I can get them! My 310TXC is too hard to kick and my starter some how cracked at its mounts and wore out both gears. I found a starter and ring gear but my Central Jersey Cycles dealer and KTM-parts.com says they are on back order. I miss the mud! Help!!

I called Town & Country Cycles in Hamburg and they had them. We had bought two TE310's from them last year and they've been all sorts of problems, mainly coolant leak and clutch master leak, and now starter. I don't like their service and parts dept too much so I order my stuff and get advice from Hall's Cycle in Illinois. Never brought my bike in for repair, I do all my own work and just ordered the flywheel puller from Halls. Updated gear kit was $153 from Town & Country. Have you adjusted your valves yet? BTW, where do you ride?????

Wow!! I live close to them so I will check them out in the morning! We live in Montclair. I ride in Caldwell, North Burgan on the turnpike just before the Vince Lumbardi service area north bound, Wall Township and Forked River. Where are you'll from?

Yea, I probably need to adjust my valves. My bike is impossible to kick start. I actually broke off the kick starter yesterday after about the 30th kick. I just bought a Rekluse and was trying to set it. I have been waiting to get my electric starter parts to fix it for over a month but Central Jersey Cycles says that they are on back order and has no idea when they will come in. This morning RailroadRog, a forum member contacted me and he has a starter and ring gear for me. I will go to NYC and get them tomorrow but still need the pinion and tube the holds the pinion. The starter mounting holes and pinion gear tube bolt holes all cracked off and my ring and pinion gears are all warn out. I like to do all of my work on my bike myself too.

For parts, you can't beat Halls, but I was lucky with T&C. The pinion is part of the shaft and the "upgrade" gear kit comes with everything you see below. The part # is on the box, but there's no individual part # inscribed on the gear. I'm up near Mahwah.

If your kickstarter is tough, it's because the auto-decompression is not cracking the exhaust valve open. Everything suffers then. You'll need to adjust valves before you can expect it to start easily! I feel lucky with these gears in hand after hearing what your dealer said.

I use to 4x4 off of 202 in Mahwah! Near the last exit in NJ close to the Appellation Trails. Close to so shooting range up there.

For sure, I am happy for you and I just hope he restocked before they stopped producing them. Central Jersey Cycles and KTM-parts.com both told me that KTM after buying Husqvarna from BMW did not like the quality of the starter parts so they stopped using the supplier and have either started using a new manufacturer or are still looking for a new one. I will try T&C tomorrow first and then try Halls. My dad is from Springfield, Ill. and tonight my cousin who is from Springfield and has moved to Montclair a few months ago knew Halls Cycles and brought them up in conversation tonight. What a small world thanks to the internet!

Airrider, you are 'The Man' ... Thanks for the ~education on Husky parts gettin' ...

And I have a few parts in hand also :) ... Riders ride, today and tomorrow.

I know the area a little bit, is the area past that Swiss looking house way up on the hill?

Exactly, my TE is street legal and insured so I can access from any point. It can get rocky and technical up there, so I changed the rear sprocket to a 50 tooth which makes it perfect. It's a different world compared to the sands of south/central jersey.
I used to take my '66 Baja Bug up there all the time.

Awesome!! Vid!! I fixed my kick start today, ordered starter parts from Toy-Tech in Pa. They will all be here by Friday. Can not wait. Tomorrow I will start it and set my new Rekluse. I met with RailroadRog in NYC and got a ton of cool stuff for the along with a new starter. Is the vid from the Mahwah trails?

Yes, vid is from up there. Don't forget to check exhaust valves. There's a centrifugal mechanism which kicks the exhaust valve open during compression stroke that is at rest when RPMs are low, and tucks away once the engine starts and revs increase. If that's not adjusted right, then starting can be destructive to some of the components. You should be able to push the kick starter down with your arm if all is good.
