• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC 4CS Issues

When i head on a dude and destroyed my super fancy high dollar and very good working twin chamber 50mm zokes on my 165 I replaced them with TE250 open chamber 48mm zokes that worked almost as good as my 2K forks.

For off road work, doesnt matter desert to woods, open chamber forks are great.... plus a great advantage is you can service easier and at a more regular interval.... all that matters for off road, which gets lost somewhere before the factory and designers, is the fact that for off road you need to flow much more oil than moto and you just need to be able to control that flow properly.....

When I was on KX500s, while talking with him about how bad the forks were he explained "how someone could fix the forks"... I laughed and said so I drill X amount of holes this size.... oh you cant do that he said, but if a guy were to do that they would enough oil that they would work great....

So I went home and drilled holes just like he said in the damper rod and waaalaaa.... it was like a fairy came down and made my beloved KX500 into a totally different machine that was 1000 times smoother.....

I wish these R&D guys would listen t someone other than RC, MC, and these mx guys.....

I really think WP/KTM has listened that's why they have been at the top of enduro offroad for many years now---somehow the 4CS concept lost that all day in saddle over hard terrain logic plush offroad flow!!

I agree and I guess thats whats frustrating is they bring out these different machines and it works great but then do something like this... i understand it will probably take 5-6 years to dial it in but how painful

It would be interesting to see what R&D KTM/WP actually do with he 4CS forks.
I rode a 15 te300 on the weekend and it had the same problems my 14 had.

It also amazes me how many different versions of these forks there are yet how different they are. I can now understand how some guys like these forks stock, rode with a guy on the weekend who loved his forks. I later found out he was running his clickers 28 out!!! - yeah buddy I bet they feel just great....

Sounds like folks lower the oil levels in different areas and small changes make a big difference from my experience with the 4CS, however regardless of how you adjust the 4CS forks in their stock configuration, the physics of the design are poor due to under engineering it seems. That's my take but I am no expert on motorcycle suspensions. I do have a very solid understanding of fluid dynamics and hydraulic systems thanks to uncle Sam and direct experience with military aircraft.

that's where I was I had those controls all the way maxed out.

I just picked up my suspension from MX-Tech. They installed what they call their 4CS Asymmetrical system. High, mid and low speed compression adjustments and rebound. Looks like I have some reading to do. I will post up some updates and pictures when I have some time this weekend. Jeremy says they have sold over 1000 of these kits to various tuners and it has been one of their most successful products. I even got some pretty stickers to go with it:banana:;)

So, what does that kit cost?

Yes the Huck valves are part of the 4CS system. It's $700...ouch. The huck valves in any fork are $400 alone. I have new base valves and new mid valves also. I cooking dinner for the kids right now and will post some pics later of the bling if time allows.

Ouch, sorry. Does the same thing the 4CS bottoming cone does, it's just physically bigger.

It's bigger and actually works compared to the WP version that like to stick and hydro-lock. The WP bottoming valve was designed to dramatically slow down the last part of the stroke with an orifice that limits oil flow but the same limiting factor when reversed slows down the rebound stroke...Doooh! The new system eliminates the defective design. there are more poorly designed aspects of the original design that have been beat to death already. I have high hopes for the forks in the rebuilt stage. Time will tell the real story and if their not right. I'll be taking them back, you can count on that.:D

KTM has single handedly built a huge suspension tuning market, first with the PDS and now this. They should just copy KYB components and be done with it.
Close to a million dollars recirculated because of the "4CS Asymmetrical system"...if the 1000 kit threshold is there. Thinking shipping, fluids, reworking, markups to tuners... Heck yeah, and that is just MX Tech derived mods...

I had that same revelation driving away with my reworked forks. That's why I joked about my 1k credit towards a future KTM bike... Like that will ever happen:(
