  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Whats wrong with the gas tanks...?
The gas cap tacos out after a while. So to fix it you have to buy this expensive Husqvarna hard part. So Ty stood there over my 511 and redesigned the actual opening of the plastic tank which will have a simple locking insert and cap for cheaper than Husqvarna and it will be anodized as well.

I would love to get a copy of the rear aluminum gas tank on the SimonPavey bike or even just the plans to the tank. Anybody have a contact with these guys? That is a much better idea than the tanks that fit over the top of the frame backbone and cover up the air filter.

Has anyone seen a design similar to this tank - it would be just great! That tank and an extra quart of cooled oil and we're exploring the desert in eastern Oregon in style! You could also hang some bags on that baby to carry enough gear for an overnight!

You could even incorporate the blow by recovery system into the fuel cooled tank.......Tinken-I wish I had your engineering and fabrication skills!

Now, about a higher 5th and 6th gears............

It isn't fully mounted yet, still waiting on more parts to come in, decided I would try fitting it first.

This would be the way i would do it... I would do only one test before i pulled the trigger on it and that would be to plumb in a hose to the drain plug hole and fire up the bike to see how much if any oil comes out with the end of the hose about where the bottom of the auxiliary oil tank is mounted...... I would run the test with 1100cc of oil..

Temporarily installed a breather/drain hose on the bottom of the airbox. Bought a Fly Racing gas cap breather hose. Worked great. Routed it down to the skidplate. image.jpg

On that air box drain tube, my SMR came with a 50mm bit of hose that's capped off. For road bikes, oil on the ground = bad, better to keep it in the airbox!

I havnt had a chance to see if I have any 'oil in the airbox' issues but would be interested in this just to get more oil capacity. Under a liter for any big bore bike let alone a higher RPM race bike is crazy. My old CRF450 held about a liter but it had separate gear box / clutch oil so much less broken down oil and contamination to the top end. Keep up the great work!

Not trying to complicate things at all but how about a skid plate that has this oil tank built into it already? I am assuming maybe a gravity issue with oil flow might be an issue? Just looking at the pics and was curious. Not sure how much room there is. I dont currently have a skid plate so I have no idea how tight things are.

I just finished trying to find a Dakar bike that had a bolt up oil tank/skid plate, they are out there but probably custom and bank. I like Tinkens original breather idea but think he over engineered the box . :)

Eff this noise, Ladds! Lets figure this one out!
I think what im gonna so is find some sort of fitting or make one that I can thread into the oil fill whole as proposed by Tinken and fab up a recirc system utilizing an exisiting oil recirculation system.
This stuff is bonkers!
