  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2012 TE 511 guards?

fasteer

Husqvarna
AA Class
About to pick up a new 2012 TE511.
Don't see anywhere listed a rad guard and skid plate for it.
Any advice?

7602 Racing makes some very nice rad braces and guards, I'd highly recommend them. I'm not sure how many choices there are for the skid plate (I am just using stock) but Eric Pirie makes a real nice carbon plate.

cool thanks.
Is the stock skid plate OK?
I know a guy that rode Moab a while ago with the stock plastic skid plate on his 511 & it seemed to hold up ok.
Maybe I don't need an aftermarket one...

just to update in case anyone searches this topic:
The stock plastic skidplate holds up pretty well and might be fine depending on where / how you ride.
I installed the aluminum skidplate that Motosportz sells (lots of rocks on my trails)
Husky lists an aluminum skidplate and also a carbon one.
I haven't seen these yet.

I too have the aluminum skid plate from Motorsportz. The stock abs plastic skid plate works well but heavy rock smashing could result in damage to the clutch cover/water pump areas. Carbon fiber skid plates are light weight but they do break. Uptite's holy plate is probably ligher, but weight was not a high concern of mine and I wanted something indestructible for the Mojave. I need to look into Moose Racing's stainless steel pipe guard, it's probably better than the aluminum ones...

I've got Pirie's Carbon Fiber skid plate on my 511 and I must say it is a work of art and very light weight. It's been
very durable so far and it has been put to the test in the high Sierra's. (rocky terrain) Patience is a virtue with him, though.
I probably would not buy from him again because I'm impatient when I order stuff for my bike but the quality is top notch.

I ordered all three 449/511 guards from their website on September 09/12 and received my shipping notice on October 09/12 which is not terrible, I was honestly expecting a longer wait from some of the posts I had seen here and elsewhere hence the reason I waited until closer to the end of the season. I really should have ordered the pipe guard sooner as it would have likely saved me a pair of pants and some burns though...

I went on the Motosportz website and they do not list a skidplate for the 511. The only one I have seen is the B&B from Australia which is ridiculously expensive. I wouldn't buy from P3 again as they don't seem to be able to deliver in any kind of time frame. Anyone got any suggestions where I can source an aluminum skid plate at a reasonable price?

The OEM plastic skid plate is not strong enough. I have worn several holes in mine and have seen some scraping to the underlying frame rails.
