  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2012-2013 TXC 310 need help

Look, I appreciate you tried the Husqvarna brand, and can appreciate that it is not perfect.

I do believe you have not been posting in this thread according to the rules - which is the first post on this site. There are a lot of places on the internet if you want to call people nerds, but Cafe Husky is not one of them.

If you have an issue with the brand, and I do know there are issues, clearly type your input with out all the other stuff.

I found this site two days after I bought my used 2010 and must say it scared the hell out of me reading about the problems. From this site I've gotten links to service manuals and all kinds of tips and procedures that have been invaluabe (thank God for you Husky NERDS!). Rarely do I see personal attacks on members (unlike some sites) and due to that I'm on here pretty much on a daily basis. Thanks Coffee for stepping in.

I have yet to have a single problem with my bike except for the suspension bearings issue (which had I been the first owner may have never reared its ugly head). Husky most certainly is having some issues with some of their models but those with a good running bike like myself are having a blast riding the hell out them.

When talking about racing results just look at the money the winning companies and their sponsors are throwing at those teams compared to Husky.
If BMW decides to get serious about putting people on the podium it will happen. (just look how quickly they've gotten to the front of World Superbike races).

BTW- One of my riding buddies just blew up his KTM that's newer than mine and a hell of alot more expensive.
Look at any brand specific site and you'll see the same type of posts from disgruntled owners ragging on the brand and how they've switched/are switching to something else. Most of them have the class to adress their dissatisfaction in the direction of the brand/local dealer and not towards those who attempted to help them in their time of distress...

PS- I'd go for the '13 in a New York second!

I have an 11 te 310 and am very happy with it so far. I came from a ktm 300 and 450, got rid of both and haven't looked back. I think you can get scared reading because the people who post are mainly having problems, some due to set-up issues, some just looking for the best running bike possible. X-lites are not DRZs but if you are looking for a race-able bike with a plate, it's awsome!! With this comes more maintanance than a DRZ but far more purpose built single track machine, and easier maint. than my ktm 4 stroke was. FI issues are largely undoing epa crap which the txc does not have to worry about so it's a better machine OFF THE FLOOR. As far as the 2013 I'm going to wait and see how they do for a bit. I'd get the 12 (and take a trip to Moabwith the leftovers.) Spend the extra cash on suspension set-up extra filters, up-tite plate and don't worry a possible 2-3 more horse power as a 2012 vs 2013 race would come down to who's on the bike.

I don't think anyone has mentioned that the new head has finger cam followers instead of bucket and shim. No one knows what the reliability and maintenance on the new set up will be ... but I know 2 things: on the Jap bikes the Yamahas with the bucket and shims are considered the most reliable and my TXC with over 70 hard hours has "needed" only 1 valve adjustment when the valves were .001 too loose.
My 12 TXC with an aftermarket pipe and JD tuner runs well and makes as much (or more) power than a stock 13.

Basically don't think you can go wrong if you get the bike from a dealer who does proper set-up, there is a little more to set up an efi bike properly especially if there are exhaust changes or in the case of the TE power-up kit. If the dealer will do it for you, get it set up how you are going to ride it, as a good dealer will set the efi accordingly. Not all dealers even grease the suspension or head bearing.

Unless you do your own set up and get I-Beat for the 12 so you can make adjustments. Not sure what options are available for the 13 to make adjustments to the FI. Unless you are happy with the stock set-up and plan no changes, otherwise a trip to the dealer for changes can be frustrating and expensive if needed.

Hey Guys, Thanks to all for your comments. I decided to go with the 2012. Picked it up this weekend. Could not justify the difference in prices for how I ride and how often I get to ride. I have not had a chance to ride other than up and down the alleys. Very pleased with the feel of the bike and the performance. I have one concern, which I read about and knew before I bought. The gearing does seem very narrow. I am sure I will get use to it and want notice after a while. Has anyone experimented with rear sprockets? Maybe smaller, stay in gear longer, just don't want to give up much low end.
I am certain that once broken in I will order a pipe. Any suggestions? Not sure if I understand what all the JD tuner does but it sounds like it should be on my list as well. I ran a Rekluse clutch on last bike and fell in love with it. Does anyone have any experience with them on the 310?

Thanks,

I have the older motor (2006 TE250), but yes I experimented a lot. My personal conclusion was to keep the speed under 50mph and keep the stock gearing. My bike, and my skill set, seem to like the lower speeds anyway.

If you like a wider power band the Rekluse makes the bike seem like it has one. I rode my 310 for a while with a 40 rear, now it's 45. It's perfectly fine for what I do, mostly fire roads with occasional rocky ending climbs. I test rode a Rekluse on an x'lite 250 and liked it, but it was just in the parking lot. it seems like it could make you an expert clutch user when you're maybe fair at best.

FMF, Pro Circuit, and Akrapovic are the 3 pipe makers I know of. I have an Akra but assume they all work well. I also got a JD to go with the pipe and it does help tune it. I've heard good things about the hop up items that the dual sport place in Phoenix has available (there's a thread here somewhere). I have a Rekluse - but only the full on kit is available since the clutch on the 310 is really 250 size and can't stand giving up any plates for the Rekluse. The motor needs about 10 hours on it before it finally loosens up - the pipe and injector give enough mid range and low end to realistically think about putting a smaller sprocket on (or maybe 1 up on the front).

Hey Wayne, great to hear you got your new 12. I picked up my 2012 TE310 on Oct 9, and saved a huge chunk of change. The Dealer uncorked the pipe and rejetted the FI to the TC specs. With the savings, I put on a 48T rear sprocket. Test rode it and was immediately impressed with the new found low end grunt, wheelies now when cracking throttle. Next was to get 12 hole fuel injector and FMF Q1 pipe from bestdualsportbikes.com. Great service great price. Put on pipe and changed fuel injector in less than 2 hours. Can you say "pull the tiger by the tail"??? Cracked the throttle going out my driveway and saw the sky, hit 2nd and same thing, 3rd and wheel came off ground again. I dont think any 13 model would do the same, and I have less than $7,100 invested. So happy trails!

Hey Guys, what is recommended break in? There is an enduro this weekend. Not sure I should just jump out and do one on a new motor.

Heh...
I own two KTM 500's, both race prep'd and one has 8000 hard race miles on it. They are awesome bikes, no doubt. But they are nothing compared to my 511. Keep reading those magazines because they totally know what they are talking about.
Just curious, How is the 511 better than the Ktm 500s? Why do you like it better? Thanks
