  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE449 Running well with factory EFI system - finally

I did it, it really does improve low end response, bike was running excellent before, but it is even better!
Pulls much harder off the bottom, but still very controllable. GREAT MOD!

Great - now I want to do it just to see what the heck this is all about. I hate to use the word - but my bike runs flawless as is...I feel as if I am tempting fate...

You don't HAVE to do the mod :-)
And if you have a PCV you my need to trim up some maps, but you'll never know how good the response can be down the bottom & part throttle settings if you don't give it a run :-)
At the end of the day, if you hate it, screw it back in.....

So I started to pull the plastics today to get this started. I unclilpped and removed the air filter. And then I quickly realized I had no idea where the butterfly is. It seems like it should be down inside the horn that is sticking up inside the air box. I guess I have to remove the entire air box body? Any
gotchas in getting the air box off?

You dont need to take the entire airbox out just the lower section that contains the filter, Then you will need to loosen the hoseclamp above the throttle body and then pull that black tube through and out of the airbox then you will be able to see the butterfly, make sure that when you replace the tube that it is sitting snug and that the seal is perfect. ... Back on the first page is a much better step by step guide

Make sure everything is VERY clean & free of dirt before you begin, you don't want that in your engine inlet.
The air-horn is soft rubber & squeezes in where it goes through the air-box top section, you can do that with out removing the whole housing from the frame. (It is tricky, but not impossible to refit, you MUST make 100% sure it is sealed back into the airbox, with a rubber lip on both sides of the plastic or dust will kill the engine)

As mentioned in the updated original post & in the thread, if you are unsure at any stage, leave it. The FBW throttle components are expensive to replace.
That said, the job isn't huge for someone handy with spanners.

Imagine this in banners Husqvarna reunite [old husky of course] people kicking back in there chairs in the early morning mist from a distance they here the rumble of what they donot know, as time movers on the sound gets louder and louder ,they close there eye's slightly to see what comes from the distance all they can see is the flicker of light , but the sound just gets louder then just on the crest things start to make sense they see a little white/red and a couple of bikes. Thats Dangermouse449 and myself . Guys/Girls who would be up for a weekend of Husqvarna's in NSW . Yes i'm not a story writer for sure. I have a couple of idea's and more would be great.
1:NSW as a meeting point
2:Husky's only [with the exception]
3:Try to to some dirt bike mag's [hello any one out there]
4:Maybe have some give aways [Put the money towards a charity] idea's
or we just meet up some and leave it that.
Any way today i'm going to start doing the mod's to my bike.

Mate, I reckon put the call out here see who's keen.....http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/australia.88/

I work shift work in the mine's & will be changing rosters soon, so not sure when I could do a trip, but keen to meet up with other riders for sure.
My mates up here would probably be interested too if we have enough time to plan it out :)

Well gents i've tryed to mod and yeah what a difference at present by bike is running Race Map 2, And it still made a hell of lot difference, bottom end power , that front wheel just lifts ,even the jerking I had a 1/4 throttle has gone. Now for the race map 3/akro set-up.
My bike is a 2012 Te449 , pro circuit exhaust, approx 2000k on the clock.

Took mine out on a smr511 with a ti arrow slip on and race map 2, only made a little difference. I think i need to adjust the by pass screw its at 2.5 turns out and tps reset. Will be fitting a titanium megabomb and PCV with autotune when i get time...

Maybe I read passed it but what is the butterfly supposed to do besides add to bad fueling?

It's a guess, but I think to soften the effect of the big throttle they used as the main butterfly.
A big butterfly opening wasn't always a great idea with regards to torque at lower revs in the days of carbs as air speeds fell and fuel wasn't drawn properly from the jets.
Since the widespread use of efi, most of the downside has been overcome.
My thoughts on this system using it were that it was probably for gentler opening to full throttle & better emissions as a result.
I could be wrong.
Whatever the original choice was based on, it goes a heap better at most throttle settings without it!! =)
