  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Welcome to the group of TE449's! We are all learning and sharing as we go, more each day. Let us know when you pick it up.
I too have just purchased a 2011 TE449, the bike I test rode had the Akrapovic slip on and the loop installed (plugged in)under the seat. It seemed to have a good throttle response and no stalling or sputtering on my 5-minute ride; on the street. I want to have an exhaust shield right away, as the thing looks like a place to trash pants, boots and anything else that comes in contact with it. Any suggestions/pix for a clean looking shield there? I have to ride the thing and set it up to have any personal opinion of the bike. My last dirt bike was a 2005 crf 450x, nice bike after setting the suspension for me. I was planning on the FMF slip on I saw on the shelf at the dealer.

Hi Joseph,
If you get the Akropovic muffler, PS Carbon make an excellent carbon fibre muffler guard that is moulded to the same shape.
Probably will not match the FMF though.

Nice muffler protector, what is the website for it, I also want pipe protection on the mid section to save another pair of burnt trousers, any sugestions and web sites please.

Thanks Sam, that carbon fiber look is nice, I thought the bike did not come with a header heat shield, but it did. I did buy the FMF muffler so I don’t know if I can get a CF shield like yours; will look for one though. I bought the bike and in 9 miles from the dealer did the mods to it. I bought the DG tuner module for it and have not installed it yet. First ride was in the street home last night in the cold rain, it reminded me of good times, but it took hours to defrost my body. 75 miles at no more than 75% power was a slow ride home. The bike is idling too high intermediately. What is wrong? Will the tuner fix it?

Got a chance to ride my new TE449 more in the woods near my house.
My first impression of the bike was eh..... but the more I ride the more I like it.
I am talking slippery mud covered tree roots lean on the tree in the corner pivot gas and go tight woods stuff.
After riding a 2008 WR250R this baby is super! sweet!
Going to have to adjust my riding style to keep up with the way the bike works.
the WR was a kind of beginers bike slow action easy running.
the TE wants to eat the trails and spit out the left overs.
It just works better with a little more agressive aproach to my riding.
so far broke my plastic hand gaurds. No surprise.
if you want to watch the butterflys and clouds go by, by all means the WR is the bike.
If you want to cruise through the nasties unscathed the TE is the bike.
It puts a smile on my face just thinking about riding my husky.

Gillies.... I too just finished installing Cycra Pro-bend guards butI had to modify the bends big time to make them fit correctly ...... I had to increase the degree of bend at bar ends , flatten out a bend so it would clear my clutch and hydraulic reservors and increase bend at inner bar mount so no bolt binding.... They fit good now ! But can't fit the plastic covers on the sides now cause I flattened the aluminum from pounding them into a good fit ! So now they are no longer a pro-bend but a custom husky bend ! Ha ha

A friend here (Azuwere) with the same bike also had difficulties mounting the Cycras. To be clear, I trimmed off the entire end of each grip and drilled out the plastic on the end of the bar, throttle side. I then attached the Cycras at the bar ends first, tightened well, and pulled them in to the clamps on the bars and attached there with the big bolt. I then adjusted and tightened fully. Mine fit nice with this approach. Note: I also rotated my levers down a fair amount to accomodate standing.

I got to ride Azuwere's bike side by side with mine after he installed the JD tuner. There is a noticable increase in power through the low to mid RPM range. Still very linear like the stock power delivery, just more of it. Not an insane increase, but it's there. Still would like to ride the JD combined with the FMF Q4 versus my stock bike. I'm under the impression from posts here that the FMF may not make a noticable difference in power delivery. I'm bummed to hear that. I put a Super Trapp on an XL185 when I was a kid and it truely made a big difference.

Anyone here able to speak to the FMF slip on and performance gains? There's a Spud guy on here from England (I think) who claims a big power increase just by pulling the guts out of his Akro.

Up-Tite has a slip on that's probably going to be the most free flowing...... I heard they are loud and might want to get the quiet insert for it..... I havn't seen one yet but George who makes them is kind of proud of the price...$450
I have heard nothing but good on th JD unit also.... I am use to MX 450 power so I'm cautioning myself on this bike.... I have de-catted mine and seen a bunch of restriction in the muffler.... I think a high flow muffler is the ticket for big power..... Pro-Circuit has a full race exhaust for the TE !!..... They havn't sold one yet, I talked to them last Friday and they will give 20% off to the first to buy one..... $800 for a full titanium race ! And they have a stainless version... Both 94 db AMA legal... I can allready tell I want more power too lol maybe when I go ride it next Sunday I may change my mind.... I have only suspension Tunned in the field across from my house... The power is really mello and easy going, still strong feeling , defiantly want more though :) I hope all it needs is exhaust and a JD !

Hi Gilles,

You have done well to get where you are with the bike.

A couple of comments.

1. Rider Sag works better at higher levels around 120mm due to the CTS having the effect of not squatting the rear end under power.
2. An FMF Q Core Muffler and JD 6X Tuner combo will knock your socks off with the difference it will make.
3. The P3 Pipe Guard is definitely the go.
4. You need revalved suspension judging by where you like your clickers. The taps are nearly fully closed !

A few pics of my TE511.

Good luck with the bike.

Hi SAM511 Nice TE and great pics, how do you like the SUB mount for your Scotts Stabilizer? It looks like it tucks away nice, did raising the bars Help the ergos? I have a new 2011 TE 449 (picked it up yesterday!), I was just looking at the available mounts at the Scotts webpage and it looked as if the the regular mount blocked the speedo. I have a Scotts Stabilizer from my old bike and would appreciate your opinion. Thanks.
Lots of good info on suspension!
How many miles can I expect from the TE tank? 80-90?

I have the JD tuner FMF Q4 combo on my TE449; it is a bit louder than the Akri. I have ridden it with the exhaust before and after the JD tuner was installed. A big difference, the bike winds up much quiker in every gear, does not stall and has not popped on time decelerating. I think it is a good combo. I wear earplugs anyway! Oh the idle adjustment is just to turn the gold screw to wear you want it. I have ridden the bike on the street a bit too, no police harrassement yet, the toleration for the load Harley exhaust is apparent; a lot of young Police ride with loud exhaust too.
Fast and running nice!

Here's a question: what other options do I have for rear blinkers on the TE449? I crashed and broke the lense on my left rear blinker. Called the dealer and was told Husky only sells the entire blinker assembly for $27 but not just the lense. Okay... I want my blinkers. Can't say why. I just want 'em. But $27 a pop for lenses has got me thinking there might be a better replacement option. Anyone got a suggestion?
I converted my TE511 to all LED the first week I had it . Moved the blinkers to prevent them from breaking. I can send you some info and Photo if you like. I also found a good replacement Relay to keep the current draw low and allow them to blink. If you install the 6 ohm resistors you find on the web, the current is higher then the normal Blinkers from the factory. Could void a few things if not done correctly :D

I want to take off my front signals and replace with these mounted to my cyrca hand guards or on sides of the headlight housing....http://www.customdynamics.com/truflex_flexible_led_lighting.htm

I took of the service fender off all together and zip tied my plate to the sub fender threw 3 holes I drilled... I haven't added the rear signals back yet , I will use hand signals for now... It's mainly my trail bike and only see's the street when needed..... I would have broken the rears off on my first ride out too, found out also the front signals take a good folding !

You have to make sure the replacement has enough illumination to match DOT Lights. Disclaimer... ... For Liability reasons :excuseme: to be 100% safe, make sure the LED meet DOT for your state. Many Vendors sell some really nice LED lights DOT and NONE DOT approved. I ride about 98% Dirt so my choice was to have something that worked, can been seen but small and tucked away. Do not need to get plowed over on the street someday! Ill take a Photo Tonight of the LED Upgrade on my 511 and photo the LED relay that is a drop in replacement.

G'Day Paul,
My Scotts Damper came off my previous 2009 TE449 and fitted on my TE511 with new mounting hardware that I got from BRP.
My underbar set up works fine except that it makes taking the seat off a chore every time.
I am surprised at your range MPG that you are getting. I thought more like 70 miles, tops.
Good Luck. I love my 2011 TE511.
SAM511.

Hello, the 80-90 was my hopeful estimation, I have heard the 449 will get 40 MPG with EFI. i will get my first ride this weekend!

got in my first ride. wow what a bike, i fave the power up in and stock muffler. The suspension was great, I had pre adjusted with SAM511 settings and it felt like I was floating. I had several stalls but I think that was me. My fuel usage was right at 30 MPG, a little disappointed100_0020.JPG as I was hoping for 35-40. 70 miles is a short loop and I will need to carry gas unless someone comes up for a bigger tank.
