  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE310 starting problem

Did anyone notice that in the owners manual that no one reads. (ya bored stiff at the inlaws) It says that the electric start is only to be used for starting the bike when it is cold. It clearly states that the kick start is to be used when the bike is warm and the electric start when it's cold. What's up with that, can anyone explain further??????

From the user manual::

ENGINE START (TE)
With cold engine, as after a prolonged inactivity of the
motorcycle or in presence of a low external temperature,
proceed as follows:
1) set ignition key (1) in IGNITION position (the buzz that you
hear when you turn the key to IGNITION is caused by the
fuel pump which puts the feeding system under pressure);
2) pull the starter lever (2);
3) pull the clutch lever (3);
4) shift gear pedal (4) in neutral position then release the
clutch control lever;
5) Check that the button (5) is in the out position and
press it, followed by the start button (6). Bring the
starter lever (2) back to its original position as
soon as the motor can idle. When starting with an
already warmed up engine DO NOT USE the starter.
**Probably something lost in the translation here, should read do not use the starter LEVER**
When a cold engine has just been started, do not
increase revs, to ensure an adequate oil warm-up
and circulation.
IMPORTANT
NEVER START WITH DISCONNECTED BATTERY.

I read the German version (coz I can) and it calls the lever a "choke"

Here's a web translation from the user guide from German to English:

5) To check that the key (5) is pulled out, then the Anlasserschalter (6) print. As soon as the engine idling , the Choke-Hebel (2) return on its initial position reset. Do not use the choke in a reboot. The cold engine does not run whininess, so that the oil heating and to all points can be routed, the a lubrication need.

I think someone mentioned this in another thread recently?

Wtf? Electric start is must in enduro. Can anybody explain, what that means? And if you dont do as said? What can happened?

What it means is YES you can use the electric start when hot, just don't use the warm up/choke lever when hot !!!

My 2011 TE310 has had starting problems which started about 4 rides ago, the bike starts instantly when cold, but after riding for about 30 mins if i stop the bike or stall, and try to re start the bike immeadiately, the starter motor cranks over slowly but will not start the bike. If the bike sits for about 10 minutes about 80% of the time the bike will start with the button. I have an electric start bike so i dont have to use the kick starter and this issue is very annoying, by the way the bike starts easily with the kickstarter.
Any advice appreciated.
I have exactly the same problem with my bike. I have a 2012 TE 310 and I am very frustrated with the starting issue. I have already replaced 2 starter motors. The bike will just simply wont start with the the bottom when the engine is hot. I have bought a new Shorai battery 210 cc Amp and it didn't made a difference. The first time the problem occurred, the bike had about 50 km, the second time it had about 500 and the replaced the engine and starter gears and drive, the checked the decompression valve, and a few other things. It was ok for about a week and then back to the same issues. This bike is just not engineered properly. For what I have been reading in forums around the world, this is a wide spread problem and Husqvarna is not taken care of it. Time to trade it for a more reliable enduro ride

Howdy!
Had the same problems with my TE 310 2012 model till i changed to a turn tech battery and a race ECU and checked the EFI with the IBEAT system. Now my bike starts with electric start motor flawlessly cold or warm. Also did thrust increase a lot from bottom to top = great fun!

What setting did you need to change with the beat software? I am really interested in that solution rather than a JD turner which everyone seams to be installing.

Changing the ECU and tweaking iBeat should have no effect on starting as long as the settings weren't entirely screwed up by the factory/dealer.

Changing the battery is far more likely to result in more reliable starting.

my 2011 TE310 with a ballistic 4 cell 135cca battery starts hot or cold (well its not super cold here in SoCal) with the start button only, derestricted and dB cap out. best of luck out there

Some are good...some suck.

The X-lites have a worm drive starter that can bind.

It appears to be a matter of a few thousands tolerance.

I just changed my ring gear and it is a little better...still iffy when hot.

I may change the worm gear next.

I think this is the same type starter on KTM 2-smokes....only 2 smokes don't have 4 stroke compression.

I dont think the starter design is quite strong enough.

has anyone found a solution for this starting issue with the 2012 TE310? I still have the same problem , maybe the motor is just not engineered properly. I ma tired of taking the bike down to the dealer where I bought it just to have it exactly the same way next day. Any suggestions?

Can someone tell me exactly what the starting problem is? Does it seems to stop at the compression stroke, or is it some other starting problem.

Also, does anyone have a picture of the auto decomp device for these bikes, like a pic of the valves being adjusted? Here's a pic of the 450/510 decomp device (like mine), I'm sure that the 310 device is different.

Pls help me for my lovely TE310 2011

has any one know about my te310 problem? the problem is starting problem.. (like battrey drop voltage)

I checked the voltage battrey during idle (1850rpm) voltage is 14.4V, but during open the thortle voltage
until 7000 rpm the voltage drop down till 13V.

is this normal?

pls help me, where I have to buy rectifier & stator? coz in my country (Indonesia) dont have those parts.

I righteously ignored it....if I saw it.

Total BS IMHO. Mine works fine.

Mine starts fine both cold and HOT (I've had the fan whining away...) with the magic button.. (decorked, FMF and JD tuner).
