  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011-2012 TE449/511's disappearing FAST!

So I've been looking around and in the span of just less than a week most of the older left over 2011 and 2012 TE449/511 models have suddenly gone poof!

It seems that people are getting wind that under the new Husky ownership this fine machine will soon be no longer and they are getting snapped up. Looks like only one 2012 and a handful of 2013's within 400 miles of me.

I really hope the beancounters and brain trust keep this platform alive and don't kill it so they can take a PDS frame and pumpkin engine and call it a "TE".

Thats a bunch of :censored: if they do.

I concur. Exactly the reason I picked up a used one. My dealer stated that there were limited number of some bikes available. He can not even get any more of the WR250/300.

There are several new Husqvarna engines being produced which are not a KTM based engines. The 250/310 is a entirely new engine (with dual oil pumps! :D) for 2014, and the heavy weight 450/500cc engines are new as well and as far as I am being told, they are not KTM based engines. However, I don't get the feeling that these new engines will be of the same quality nor technologically advanced as the Kymco engine. CTS and above swing arm linkage will no longer be used. Sadly, we all know that eventually the engines will be KTM's and these new engines will more than likely be one year wonders and few people are going to want that.

So... I think Malcolm Smith still has a few 2011, 2012's.

i keep tellin you guys....get some left-overs fore they's all gone. if i had the cabbage i'da got the TE with that WR i just got. bout near get two bitchen bikes for the price of one so....git while the gittin's good on the last hurrah.

My dealer stated that the 449 / 511 platform are getting a lot harder to find. Even the used market is slim pickens......in relation to all other makes of course. If someone were to want one and they found a good deal on new or used, I would jump on it if possible. I wanted to wait so I could save the cash and not have to finance, but i didnt want to be SOL later on down the road when finding one meant driving across the country or paying for shipping. Plus I was able to ad to the stable earlier!:D

Just found a '12 TE449 for $6000 with 250 miles and new bike financing rates. Full warranty.
May have to jump on this.

Looks like i'm going to hold on to my TXC (street legal) 449.
Not getting a warm fuzzy feeling about the TE\TXC possibly going away. :(

Can't stop progress I guess, even of its in two steps back, one step forward increments.

I understand that the new motor may be better in some respects, but getting rid of the cts, will be a loss to the community of some very solid technology. Just because some whiny motojournalists can't ride unless its from Japan or dipped in orange goo, and gave it a bad wrap. I'm sure if Husky had as much advertising in the mags as other brands, perhaps they would have tested better...

If you can swing it I would. I barely have much time on my 449 since I bought it so Im not professing to be some 449/511 guru. That being said it only took one ride to see how well the bike works. My CRF450 plain wore me out and stalled constantly. After a few minutes on the TC I could tell that it was a 450cc bike that I could race without killing myself or getting worn the heck out. I do not ride moto.....just off road with a lot of tight single track.

I'm just looking for an affordable dual sport. My 630 will most likely stay with me and be set up for adventure bike travel.
I'll admit I know almost nothing of the reliability of the 449/511.

I honestly cant speak of reliability either. But I did read a LOT prior to the purchase and found as much reliability issues as one would with any other brand.

The 449/511 has been a pretty reliable powerplant. I sold approx 25 of them before I sold my shop and only had 1 major failure (con-rod).

Its a very reliable bike. I have kept mine bone stock except for removal of the emissions canister,a skid plate and rotor guard from Motosportz, and running race map II. I have 1100 miles on mine and have really enjoyed it. Hoping that there will still be some 511's around in a couple months so my girl can ride the 449.

Considering the breeding on this powerplant, and historical data on the 450X heritage, I can't see Husky abandoning this design for awhile. They could however, take a lesson from the Orange Koolaid guys that use plug and play performance chips versus have to buy a tuner to make a top level off-road bike run properly.

This is the best sales pitch for current models. My budget doesn't allow for another new bike or an update-surprised I even considering the idea. I am still happy as sh*t with my 09TE450. I figured I'd ease into the 11/12 models in time but not yet. Was hoping for that "xlite450" version if promising. NOW, if they change again, I may just plan to keep the 09TE450 through the next model as well. Maybe I'll be a vintage rider one day on it.

That is where I am also, I bought my 2008 450 used and wanted to do a lot of upgrades (seat/suspension/tuner) and was doing the comparison between doing this on an old version or starting out fresh with a current model. My biggest upside to a new model is that my closest dealer (Gateway BMW/Husky) was not a heritage Husky dealer. So maybe a 450 X-lite with an extra 1.5 Gal. of fuel in a year or two.

I just saw 5 or 6 2012 TE449/511s and one 2011 TXC 449 at BMW motorcycles of Las Vegas, NV.

In the UK they are not so popular, which is hard to explain, i purchased my 2011 449 recently at half the new price of a new one with only 800 miles on it :)

When I first saw the 449/511 bikes I was turned off by them. Mainly due to them being different. The more I read the more I realized it is a really cool bike. And fast to boot! Once I road mine in the nasties I was hooked and once I installed a JD tuner......I was scared sh@tl*ss!!

The problem over here is the sheep mentality of odd coloured bike owners, anything out of the ordinary like CTS/ underseat fuel tank or rear suspension linkage reversed makes them run a mile, whatever you do do not mention that the engine runs backwards :)
