  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 tc250 supermoto conversion

Motobum

Husqvarna
A Class
Hi all,

I have a 2010 tc250 which I would like to do the odd supermoto trackday on.
Can anyone tell me which wheels would fit.
I have a set of Behr 5 / 3.5 inch wheels off a Ktm 690 SMC, is there any way of making these fit?
Also any advice on braking systems would be great.

Thanks very much

Not without a fair amount of work Im afraid.. Sell them and get a set of Husky wheels!

Where ya from anyhow?

Okay, thought I would ask on the off chance.
Does anyone know which wheels I should look out for on eBay?
Will any Husky supermoto wheels fit?

I'm in South Wales UK, land of the green green grass.

Any wheels from 04-10 4stroke will bolt on. And the wheels from early '00's and late '90's supermotos (like the 400, 570 single cam bikes) will work with a change of bearings and a spacer. EDIT- The front hub requires that, I believe most the rears already have the correct setup. But a quick check on some parts fiche' will answer any other questions.

Since you're in the UK, call up Motosupplies and see if they have/know of any for sale..

Do the early 4 stoke bikes (98-00) have the sprocket spaced out like the new ones?

As far as I know, the sprocket/rotor locations are the same as 04-10 wheels, but I haven't had a rear hub from that generation to inspect.

But the '11-12 rear hubs are slightly different. The rotor is spaced further out a few mm's than 04-10 generation.

Okay, as an update I have got some wheels from a 450SMR coming this week. It has a 16.5x3.5 front and a 17x5.5 rear.
Fingers crossed they will fit.
I also took delivery of an STM slipper clutch last week that will be going in at the same time.
My next challenge is the bouncy bits:
Anyone know what springs I should use for a 14 stone rider fully kitted? Any advice on oil etc would also be great.
Do any other husky forks fit the tc250 yolks & SMR wheels, so I can set up a spare set?
Dya think the standard shock will be okay to use?
I will post some photos as soon as I get the wheels on.
Thanks all,
Mike

the travel is shortened on both the front and rear. do you have a suspension specialist in the area ?? he would be your best bet.... valving is also changed front and rear, different stack in the forks, don't know what they do in the rear. just know my stock RR is fine for this novice.... fork oil weight from the factory in the RR's is 7.5......

If that STM is from a 450, you may have to play around with various spacers behind the clutch pack, and you may even need to get a steel basket as they are thinner.. The gear is cut on the basket itself vs the aluminum basket with a thick gear riveted to the back. Let me know how it goes with the slipper!

I second Huskyfrk's advice. Get a specialist near you to set it up. the OEM supermoto's are lowered but you don't have to. Main concern is the valving and springs

Okay, tried fitting the slipper clutch before reading your post JR, & it won't work, the guy I bought it off said it would definitely fit the TC250! So back to the drawing board with that one! Could I fit a 450 clutch basket to make it work?

The wheels went on just about with zero Clearence with the chain & tyre & I also had to take the chain guard off as the wheel would not go on with it. The wheel sizes are 16.5 x 3.5 front, 17 x 5.5 rear. I'm hoping a supermoto specific slick will give me a bit more Clearence.

The good news is I am picking up a set of 510smr forks & shock already set up for supermoto next week.

Any advice on right chain length, chain guard & getting the slipper clutch working would be much appreciated.

I'm really not sure about getting the slipper to fit that engine, as it's the newer style x-lite.. How many clutch plates does your stock clutch have? I'm guessing the problem you ran into is the shaft doesnt stick out far enough to put the nut on?

If you decide to start racing, it would be wise to swap that 5.5" rear rim for a 5". The less rotational mass you have, the better and on a 250, it's especially critical. Of course, if you aren't concerned with racing and such, you may not wish to bother with it.

For chain setup, I run two master links with one long section and vayring lengths of short sections. Find the shortest length chain you'll ever need and cut that length. Use the rest of the chain by making 2 or 3 link sections that you can put on with a second master link.

Panic over with the slipper, I checked with motosupplies & it is the right one. Just a case of me fitting it properly I think:p
I did wonder how the super wide rear would fare. I will be doing some hillclimb racing & would like to progress to sm racing when I have a bit more experience, so Ill see how it works.
Thanks for advice with the chain, genius, why didn't I think of that?

Just taken delivery of a WDS air shock which Im hoping will allow me to switch between motocross & supermoto settings without removing. Oh & disc & K&N filter so I'll post more photos when they go on:-)

Awesome! So what do you have to do to make a 450 slipper fit the newer 250 engines? Did Paul give you any advice/help on how to do that?

Can't wait to see more pics
