Hey everyone, I am new to the motard scene, and i just picked up a 2008 smr 510 with 2850 on her. When i bought the bike ran great. I road the bike around town probably about 20 miles and when i stopped at a stop light after idling for a bit it would die. Not a problem start it back up and lets go..
Then i went to take it out one more time before the seasons end every time i would start slowing down it would die with a little popping, then it would start right back up. Got a little further and the problem got worse. It sounds like the fuel would just cut out even at like 15 miles an hour or around turns even with the clutch in trying to give it gas to keep it alive, it would still die. Time to turn around and go home.
on my way back home it died, and would not start back up, i fiddled with the idle screw and nothing.
They guy told me he had a piston failure around 1800 miles he showed me all of the proof that he had the work done. I found a forum on cafe husky from the guy i bought i from said he has a piston failure and when the guy re did the motor the cam timing was off, he said he fixed it on the forum and that the bike was perfect (about a year before i picked up the bike)
The bike has the arrow exhaust, power up kit and a power commander. I was wondering if any one has had a similar issue and knows a way to fix it. I checked the valves and they seemed to be within spec, i was told it could be the fuel mixture, i have not reset the power commander yet, but thats my next attempt at the solution.
Can anyone give me some advise or personal experience similar to the problems i have been having.
Other questions
—where should that idle screw/ be set
zipty reflash available? i have read about that seemed to fix new bikes problems.
any advise would be much appreciated.
