• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1987 430 Kicker Skipping a Beat

Husqvarna
A Class
Hello everyone, I have a hard time starting my bike and I've been trying to iron out all the issues that compound to make this machine a absolute chore to start. I'd rather run on a treadmill than try to start this thing. I hate cardio too!

Anyhow without delving into all my other nuanced issues ( see post history) I'll start from the top for this one.

1 in every 10 or so kicks my kickstarter will skip a single cog. What will happen is I slowly rotate the kicker to find TDC, once found I will return the kicker to its resting position. Now I will very slowly engage the kicker to see at what position my kick will begin. Ideally the kicker will start to engage at what degree? 1 o clock, 2 o clock?
What will happen alot of the time is I find the kicker engages lower than ideal and I'll slowly rotate it thru until I find the sweet spot.
Now roughly 1 out of every 10 times when in this ideal starting position I will begin to apply pressure and I will feel and hear the kickers pawl slide I to the position (skipping) the last tooth I was on.

I have never dismantled my kicker! I fear it will be a beast to get back together. I know I have the ability it's more a question of how long? Any tips for re timing the kicker?

Is this:
1 .) A kickers parts/pieces being worn
2.) The kicker is timed incorrectly, deploying too late
3.) The kickers bearings having too much play
4.) Improper technique combined with my 2x4s for legs

I've seen (forget where) someone grind down the plate that the spring loaded pawl pushes against to get even more travel. Is this common? Has anyone heard of this?

Lastly I got into the habit of starting it without boots on, and I find it very difficult to start with boots. There have been moments where I'm standing on the kicker in the middle of it's stroke because I lack the girth and authority. It's like I'm playing a game of delicate twister in the air until the time comes for me to stomp with 100% effort. Not to digress but I also fear my conventional forks need re sealing, any tips? Never done forks before. Also where is a good place to install an aftermarket battery on these bikes for street legal purposes?
